IHA’s Hospital Heroes program celebrates employees who have acted courageously in a moment’s crisis or selflessly served their hospitals and communities throughout their careers. IHA presented 11 Hospital Heroes Awards at its annual meeting last month. Hammel is the heart and soul of Iowa Specialty Hospital, Clarion, where his dedication and kindness have made an indelible mark. After years as a full-time cook, Hammel retired, only to return part-time, bringing back his wealth of knowledge and a spirit that uplifts everyone around him. Whether guiding new employees or helping seasoned staff, Hammel’s presence is a source of comfort and inspiration. His homemade desserts are legendary, and his quiet generosity genuinely defines him. Hammel regularly takes leftover food from the hospital, transforms it into meals and delivers it to a homeless shelter in Des Moines without fanfare or recognition. His humility and compassion exemplify what it means to be a Hospital Hero. The entire hospital was excited when Hammel decided to return. His kindness, compassion and giving spirit make him a cherished Iowa Specialty Hospital family member. https://bit.ly/4fBP5H5

A Mission People... Celebrate Hospital Week at Baptist Health System We help people achieve health for life through compassionate care inspired by faith. The word “hospital” and “hospice” are derived from the Latin word hospes, which means both “guest” and “host. This history can direct ones thoughts towards hospitality. The word “hospitality” is synonymous with words like… “welcome, friendliness, warmth, generosity, cordiality, sociableness and openness”. Pause a second an consider what is needed for someone in the hospital who experiences being… lost, overwhelmed, out of control, injured, scared, angry, hurt, totally vulnerable. In these cases, hospitality is precisely at the foundation of what is needed to accompany our patients toward healing and wholeness. Hospitals that practice holistic hospitality are safe havens for the sick and vulnerable. Celebrating you this Hospital Week at BHS – What a Joy it is to serve hospitably together!

Today, the Sacramento Fire Department, in partnership with Medic Ambulance Service, proudly introduced four new Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances to the City of Sacramento’s 911 system! This new program enhances how we allocate emergency resources, ensuring patients receive the care they need while keeping Advanced Life Support (ALS) units available for critical emergencies. BLS units are designed for non-life-threatening situations, allowing us to better serve our community with efficiency and compassion. “This program helps us free up our Advanced Life Support medic units for critical calls in the community,” said Fire Chief Chris Costamagna. “It allows us to get patients to the right location at the right time with the right resources.” Together, we’re building a safer and healthier Sacramento!

This is amazing, well said Carey Bilton MIED. Having worked in Scarborough for over 20 years - I have always known what a special place it is to live and work. I choose to move here from the bright lights of Manchester, to significantly enhance my career and grow my family. I get frustrated when I hear businesses say that it is difficult to recruit 'good staff' because of where we are located. I don't believe this. After all - why did so many 'city folk (apparently this is where the 'good staff' are!!)' want to move to more rural and coastal areas during and post COVID...... because this is where you can get work/life balance. Couple that with some of the most amazing global/national/creative/forward thinking businesses in the country, and tremendous investment towards future development and security of work - what is missing??? Perhaps we need to change the dialogue and create a more positive conversation about what we have to offer and how lucky people are to have the opportunity to be part of something special. At the same time create and develop our own 'good staff' - after all, home grown success will create the most amazing sense of pride for all. #scarborough #northyorkshire #investment #futuredevelopment #greatplacetowork #staffrecruitment #employeedevelopment #worklifebalance #beyondexpectation

I was very excited to be able to get a sneak peak around the new urgent and emergency care unit at Scarborough hospital yesterday. 👀 Well done York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust I can honestly say that the building and the facilities are phenomenal and will really make a difference to each and every one of the 200 patients that pass through our A&E each day, along with the brilliant staff who will be working within the specialist rooms, wards, and treatment centres. They have thought of everything including outside terraces for patients and staff, a sensory room, a frailty unit to support the elderly back home after a fall as well as rooms for relatives to stay over. The upstairs critical care ward is amazing and the care that the patients here will receive will be nothing but the best. Thank you to Susan Richings for inviting me to the tour. Lovely to see you Tracy Calcraft Jo Thompson Carey Bilton MIED Michelle Forbes

Amidst Hospice Palliative Care Week, let's illuminate the importance of embracing a palliative approach to care. This week serves as a poignant reminder that the journey towards comfort and support begins long before the twilight hours. It's a recognition that the essence of palliative care transcends mere end-of-life considerations; it's about enriching the entirety of life's tapestry with compassion and understanding. In the spirit of this week, let's encourage early conversations about palliative care, fostering an environment where individuals and families feel empowered to explore their options and make informed decisions. By starting these dialogues sooner rather than later, we can ensure that every person receives the tailored support they deserve, enhancing their quality of life regardless of their prognosis. Together, let's honour Hospice Palliative Care Week by championing the belief that it's never too early to infuse care with kindness, dignity, and unwavering support. In doing so, we not only enrich the lives of those we care for but also affirm the profound value of compassion in every moment of existence. #NHPCW #PalliativeCareIsForYou

Ever hear this exchange at the clinic? “How are you holding up?” “Oh, just a bit tired, you know, the usual.” But is it really just the usual? During International Stress Awareness Week (1st - 8th Nov), we want to highlight the importance of looking after the well-being of those who look after our pets. 🐾 Through our latest vet-only treatment innovations, we’re committed to making a difference in their work lives—helping to lighten the load and make their essential work just a bit easier.
