Due to numerous factors, homeless individuals are three times more likely to be the victims of crimes and they are less likely to ask police for help. We feel passionate about our partnership with Durham College's Police Foundations program. We give students first-hand experience refining their rapport-building skills while they simultaneously observe conflict resolution, de-escalation, and how these skills operate within a context of concurrent disorders. Please read this article from Durham College's Reflections magazine, we are mentioned in the article on 27-28. The article discusses how our partnership meets the province's mandatory volunteerism and community component for post-secondary education. https://lnkd.in/e728Dywx

It takes a village to address restorative justice by promoting positive relationships. Cities need to partner with school districts, teachers and students to create programs like Restorative Practices Initiatives. These programs could be implemented in school discipline practices also called positive discipline, responsive classrooms, or empowerment focued on fostering a sense of community within classrooms to prevent conflict.
