🌟 IHO Program Highlights: Transitional Housing Support Program (THSP)🌟 We understand that shelter living isn’t the right fit for everyone. That’s why our Transitional Housing Support Program (THSP) is here to help survivors find safe, affordable, and permanent housing while navigating the barriers they face. 🏡 **How We Can Help:** ✨ Develop personalized transitional and safety plans ✨ Assist with applications for income support, social housing, and legal aid ✨ Connect you with community resources like counseling, mental health services, and parenting supports ✨ Provide guidance through complex systems like legal processes, immigration, police, and medical appointments Additionally, we recognize that for many survivors, leaving the relationship is not the outcome that they desire. It's very common that the main outcome desired is for the violent behaviours to stop. We can connect any willing family member to resources to move towards healing and restoration from domestic violence. Our outreach workers bring shelter services to you—wherever you feel safe in the community. 💜 📞 Need support? Reach out to us to learn more about how our THSP can help you or someone you care about. #SupportSurvivors #TransitionalHousing #SafeAndSupported #EndViolence #CommunityCare

According to recent statistics, approximately 589,464 people were experiencing homelessness. The fear of relapsing into homelessness after leaving transitional housing is a common concern for many individuals who have experienced housing instability. Why? ➡Aging-out foster youth may lack stable housing and support. ➡Young adults leaving foster care may face financial challenges. ➡Some individuals aging out of foster care lack essential life skills like budgeting. So, from my experience, you can: ➡Providing extended support services: housing assistance, case management, and counseling. ➡Offering transitional housing programs specifically designed for young adults. ➡Offering comprehensive life skills training programs covering topics such as budgeting, cooking, and job readiness. ➡Educating young adults about their rights as tenants and providing assistance with understanding leases.

We can prevent homelessness with legal aid. We'll say it again: we can prevent homelessness with free, legal help to those who need it most. It's not simple, but to us, it's obvious: "The United States is the only developed nation in the world without universal access to legal aid, which helps explain why we continue to experience a record high homelessness population." A housing strategy for vulnerable young people is a must do in BC.
We are grateful to The Vancouver Sun for publishing this Opinion piece today. We feel strongly and passionately that a strategy to address youth homelessness will change the face of our society. "Without a dedicated youth housing strategy, young people in care are being pulled down a path to homelessness and further into a cycle of life-altering crises — facing issues like problematic substance use, interactions with the criminal justice system, and even losing custody of their own children." - Jacqueline Dupuis and Sarah Stewart Please share this post as we head to the ballot box. https://lnkd.in/gQX4S_KX #HousinginBC #bcPoli #YouthHousing #YouthHousingStrategy #SocialPurposeHousing #BCElection #PRforGood #PRforSocialChange #SocialPurposePR

We MUST not become insensitive to what is unaceptible. We effectivelly address homeleness by CREATING JOBS with LIVABLE WAGES. The federal minumum wage if $17,000 per years is immoral. A LIFE WITH DIGNITY to all people is sustained with LIVABLE WAGES and job creation. #jobcreation #livablewages

In light of the pending Supreme Court case, City of Grants Pass v. Johnson, which challenges the criminalization of homelessness, it's time to reconsider our approach. Imagine if, instead of fines and citations, our police officers issued "support notices" to homeless individuals, connecting them directly with housing and support services. What if people were connected to resources and support instead of fines and citations? The current approach often traps individuals in a cycle of criminalization and poverty. By shifting to a supportive model, we can reduce barriers and offer real solutions to homelessness How can we rethink our policies to better support those in need? What innovative solutions have you seen in your community? #Homelessness #SocialImpact #PolicyChange #CommunitySupport #InnovativeSolutions #SupremeCourt
"When cities pour resources into policing and punishment, as they do in Utah and San Francisco, they divert funds from proven solutions like deeply affordable housing, mental health support, and job training programs that are critical for people like me who are striving to rebuild our lives," says Claudine S. "Saddling individuals with criminal records, fines, and legal entanglements often perpetuates the cycle of homelessness... This means that the very policies meant to address homelessness are making it harder for people to secure stable living situations and employment." Read more: https://lnkd.in/gZQCtMjj

One of our National Care Leaver Asks is focused on raising awareness to improve care leavers' access to housing. This includes addressing the challenges posed by large upfront deposits, rent payments, and the need for guarantors, which can lead to homelessness among care leavers. ⛰️ We're calling on the Government to #EndTheCareCliff by prioritising social housing for young people leaving care and making sure they have the support they need every step of the way to make a positive start to adulthood. 📈 There has been a 54% increase of young care leavers in England facing homelessness, over the past 5 years. This needs to change now. ➡️ Max shares his story, along with other care-experienced young people, in our report: https://lnkd.in/ebmyDsNR
