Safeguarding the cultural heritage of dipnet fishing - great news from the Torne Valley Dipnet Culture - TVDC project! Best of luck with the UNESCO application🍀 #InterregAurora
Thursday, March 27th was one of the most significant days of the year, a date that will be remembered as a milestone, as the UNESCO application was completed and we had the opportunity to watch the short documentary about the dipnet fishing on the Torne River. The evening continued with the "Dipnet Evening" gathering, attended by around one hundred practitioners, stakeholders, city representatives, and museum professionals. The application will be sent to Paris today, signed by the cultural ministers, and we can be proud that this valuable tradition has received the recognition it deserves. Together, we will await UNESCO’s decision in December 2026. A warm thank you to everyone who participated in the making of the film and the application process. Special thanks to ProSiika ry, the producers of the film at Brightnest, our funders Interreg Aurora, the Inkeri and Mauri Vänskä Foundation, and the cities of Tornion kaupunki - City of Tornio and Haparanda stad.
