The Season of Care and Compassion As December unfolds, we’re reminded that this time of year is not just about celebrations, but also about giving and compassion. In healthcare, these values resonate deeply, as we strive to bring comfort and care to our patients every day. The holiday season often brings its own set of challenges for many, and as healthcare professionals, it’s our privilege to ensure that every patient feels seen, heard, and cared for—no matter the time of year. Whether it’s a warm smile, an extra moment of listening, or going above and beyond to meet a need, these small gestures can make a big difference. To my peers in healthcare: let’s continue to bring the spirit of the season into our work. Let’s show our patients and colleagues the kindness and empathy that define our profession. Wishing everyone a joyful December filled with connection, gratitude, and the satisfaction of knowing we’re making a difference. #PatientCare #HealthcareLeadership #CompassionInAction #DecemberReflections #SeasonOfCare

Need something to keep you active during a Chicago winter? How about doing something that you can then tell all your friends about - so they'll stop talking behind your back and tell you to your face that you're crazy. Hustle Chicago (f/k/a "Hustle up the Hancock" - same building, different name) is the last Sunday in February, and benefits the clean air and healthy lung efforts of the Respiratory Health Association. What, exactly, is the event? Well... you start at the ground level and take the stairs all the way to the observation level - a mere 1,030 feet above (1,632 steps, for those keeping track). Some people look at it as a bucket-list thing... for me, with the exception of 2022 and 2023, it's been an every-year-since-2012 thing. Trust me, it sounds nuts, but it's no more taxing than running a 5k at a decent pace. It's also a million times more rewarding - it's hard to describe the feeling of emerging from the stairwell on the observation deck, bathed in sunshine after 94 floors of fluorescent lighting, surrounded by folks cheering you on, and seeing the entire city spreading out well below. Tomorrow, Friday, January 24th, is the last day to join a team. You can still register as an individual after tomorrow, but if you want to jump on my team and grab yourself a nice early-morning start time for the event, click the link below! https://lnkd.in/gqHS_uMR

Respiratory Care Week is recognized every October to help raise awareness for the essential role of respiratory therapists in patient care, especially those who manage chronic lung diseases. There are a number of ways we can also promote healthy living and care for our own respiratory systems, including: 🧘♀️ Try deep breathing to help improve lung function and reduce shortness of breath. 🚴 Practice aerobic exercises, like walking or cycling, to improve cardiovascular fitness, as well as resistance exercises, like weight lifting, to improve muscle strength. 🧹 Reduce indoor air pollution by ensuring living and working spaces are well ventilated and cleaned regularly to prevent the buildup of allergens, dust, and mold. 🏠 Test your home for radon gas.

As 2024 ends, I reflect not just as a hospital manager but as someone who sees the bigger picture of life. In emergencies, every breath counts—and do you know who silently helps us breathe? Trees. A single tree absorbs 50 kg of CO2 every year, giving us clean air, shade, and life itself. But here’s the question: Are we doing enough for what keeps us alive? Just as hospitals work to save lives, trees work every day to protect us—without asking for applause. As we step into 2025, let’s care for them as they care for us. Because health isn’t just in hospitals—it’s in the air we breathe. Plant, protect, and let life thrive. Every second in an emergency counts. Every decision could mean the difference between despair and hope. I’ve seen resilience in patients, dedication in teams, and the undeniable power of care and compassion. But here’s the question I keep asking myself: Are we doing enough for those who trust us with their lives? In this fast-paced world, let’s pause and reflect. Health isn’t just personal—it’s universal. Your kindness today could save someone tomorrow. As we step into 2025, let’s pledge to prioritize what truly matters: health, humanity, and hope. Together, we can make every moment count. Are you with me?
