🌟 Finding peace by Dublin Bay on this first day of 2025. Sometimes the most profound moments of clarity come when we take a step back, breathe, and let nature be our guide. As an engineer, I’ve learned that the most innovative solutions often emerge not from constant motion, but from moments of thoughtful reflection. Today marks not just another new year, but a fresh perspective on growth and connection. “In stillness, creativity flows; in silence, wisdom grows.” My 2025 aspirations: • Cultivating meaningful professional relationships • Embracing challenges as stepping stones • Contributing to our engineering community • Growing beyond technical boundaries The sea teaches us that consistency and persistence shape the strongest shores. Similarly, our professional journey is shaped by dedication and continuous improvement. “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” - Steve Jobs Here’s to a year of building bridges - not just in engineering, but between minds and opportunities. Looking forward to connecting with fellow problem-solvers, and dreamers who believe in the power of hard work and authentic relationships. #Engineering #ProfessionalGrowth #NewYear2025 #Innovation #ContinuousLearning #DublinBay #Reflection

🌍 Global Collaboration in Action! 🌍 We're thrilled to announce the publication of our latest research in Applied Materials and Interfaces, a project born from a fantastic international collaboration. This work, led by our GRK members Patrick Schütz, Sascha Lemich, and Maria Weißpflog, with the valuable contributions of Siraphat Weerathaworn from the AG Abetz group, in partnership with exchange student 張家維 (Chia-Wei Chang) from the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, explores new frontiers in smart materials. Chia-Wei, who joined us on a DAAD-sponsored internship, worked with the team to develop dual-responsive poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) films that incorporate pH-sensitive, gold-functionalized nanoparticles to dynamically adjust electrical properties based on environmental pH and temperature changes. This advancement not only enhances the adaptability of PIL films but also opens doors for smart sensors and responsive electronic devices. This project exemplifies how bringing together expertise from across the globe drives innovation and expands the potential for impactful scientific breakthroughs. Explore the publication here: https://lnkd.in/e6geeY56 We’re incredibly proud of the teamwork and dedication from everyone involved—congratulations to Chia-Wei, Patrick, Sasha, Maria, and Siraphat for showcasing the power of global scientific collaboration!

We know construction isn’t just about bricks and beams – it’s about innovation too. That’s where people like David Madrigal come in. As a Kennesaw State University - (CCSE) College of Computing and Software Engineering IT student and ARCO Design/Build intern, David has been tackling everything from troubleshooting tech glitches to setting up workstations, all while showing us how technology is building the future of construction (and keeping our teams connected). David’s story, recently featured by KSU, is one of resilience, curiosity, and plenty of determination. From overcoming language barriers to mastering IT solutions, he’s proof that innovation isn’t just about tools – it’s about people. Read more about David’s journey and how he’s shaping the tech side of construction here: https://bit.ly/3Nkp2YK

Please STOP thinking it will just 'happen' for you. I see too many young engineers wanting the success, but not having the pieces of the puzzle in place and stalling. Do this instead: - craft your backstory - discover your niche - audit your persona - use your diversity as a superpower - update your CV and LinkedIn - get networking Without the right approach, most young engineers don't get the dream job they want. Or make the impact to their potential. You need to be curious, communicate, and put yourself out there. Find your value proposition and solve the worlds problems. That's what engineers do best. It was a honour and privilege to be a guest speaker and talk with the Optik Consultancy interns at University of Technology Sydney So many bright young minds that will shape our engineering industry into the future. You never know what can come from a conversation about an idea, a solution and something that might just change someone's life. Thanks again Osman Mah for the opportunity.

✨ Inspiring Through Passion and Perseverance ✨ Last week, I had the privilege of representing Safe AI at United High School’s Career Day in Laredo, TX. This experience was deeply personal and impactful, as I had the opportunity to connect with a predominantly Hispanic audience in a city where tech isn’t yet a dominant industry. Most professionals at the event came from fields like law enforcement, border services, and politics—roles deeply tied to the city’s identity. Amidst this, I shared not only insights into tech careers but also a message of perseverance and passion, drawing from my own journey of challenges and triumphs. Using a 7-minute video, I demonstrated how Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Python Programming, and Generative AI come together in practical and relatable ways through Minecraft. Students saw how to: • Launch a cloud-based virtual machine to host a Minecraft server, • Secure the server through port configurations and user management, • Automate building structures in Python using math and creativity, and • Leverage Generative AI to generate new code through prompt engineering. But more than the technical side, it was about showing them the connections—how passion for problem-solving and perseverance through obstacles can lead to impactful careers in tech. It’s experiences like these that remind me of the power of innovation, education, representation, and connecting with young minds through hands-on examples they can relate to. Seeing their curiosity and excitement was a powerful reminder of why Safe AI’s mission matters. Here’s to breaking barriers, sparking curiosity, and empowering the next generation to dream big and pursue their passions. #GenerativeAI #Education #Innovation #CyberSecurity #CloudComputing #Python #RepresentationMatters #Students #SafeAI
