All the back and forth of TikTok this weekend and the surprise release of Meta's new editing app called 'Edits' has got me really thinking about what the future of social media is going to look like… And I'm not talking this week or this month or even this year. (There are so many short term games in social!) I'm talking in 3 years, 5 years even… beyond! What do you think social media will be like when our children are grown adults trying to navigate the complexities of various apps of b2b marketing and content creation. There is NO WAY it's going to be like it is now. The hustle and tussle of the big players copying each other and releasing small updates and creating big news out of them reminds me of pre Apple Iphone and pre Facebook. When the big players of the world i.e. Blackberry and MySpace - were so sure of their positioning that they made a huge deals about small feature changes and updates; but just were not thinking differently about things on a big scale. The phrase ‘fight to the bottom’ comes to mind. There's wobbling interest in these apps. We know we have to do it (just like we knew we had to use a Blackberry!) But we really don't care about the new rectangle sized grid on a deep level - just like no one really cared about the rollerball mouse on a Blackberry. Everyone's just talking about it because there's nothing else being invented - and no-one is thinking differently. So the only thing to talk about is the small changes. But I wanna talk BIG change!!! What's the big picture? What are things really going to look like in 5/ 10 years? And it's a question I really want you to think about. Really get curious about and consider the possibilities. Personally I am interested in the big picture discussion around hyper-personalistation; the blockchain and the huge carbon footprint and resource drain that social media has become. I know that we can do better and I know there is a possibility of better solutions. My new technology that I'll be releasing on the 13th February is a drop in the ocean of what I plan to be a big movement in fundamental disruption of the way we approach b2b social media marketing as a whole. We all have to start somewhere and with small steps to be on the edge of something greater. And I truly think that this is the dawn of the new seismic shift of the future of social media. If you feel the same get on the waitlist to be a part of the change. https://lnkd.in/eKJNDPpW And if you're on the waitlist already - I'll see you on the 13th February to get started!

How Social Media Algorithms Impact Your Business Social media algorithms have been shaping our online experience for over 15 years, determining what content gets seen and by whom. Here’s what businesses need to know 1. Algorithms Control Visibility: They amplify engaging content, meaning your posts need to stand out to be seen. 2. Regulations Are Rising: Governments are cracking down on harmful content, and businesses must stay aware of how this affects their platforms. 3. Free Speech Isn’t Free: Algorithms often favour controversy, distorting public sentiment. Businesses must navigate these biases. 4. User Control is Growing: New tools may give users more control over what they see, meaning businesses must adapt to shifting user preferences. Read the full article at BBC https://lnkd.in/eUJmGFrJ

Gen Z’s increasingly turning to social media over traditional search engines. That means when they’re trying to find information on something, or want to learn how to do something, they’re going straight to TikTok or YouTube, skipping Google entirely. So, what does this mean? 1️⃣It means that social algorithms have gotten SO good that it’s easy to find what you need. 2️⃣It means the traditional search engines are going to have to start thinking outside the box. (Crazy to think that “let me Google it” could soon be a dated reference?!) 3️⃣It means that, once again, Gen Z are the disruptors. They broke the marketing funnel (more on that later this week) and now they’re changing the way we seek out information online. Thoughts? #marketing #socialmedia #information #tech #technology

The Meta fact-checking move opens the door for a different conversation, one that’s important for all of us to participate in — especially if you are a parent of a child who uses social media. We all need a discussion about critical thinking. "Social media companies can do whatever they want when it comes to fact-checking. It’s on us to make sure we are not relying on an unreliable source for information," writes Cory Treffiletti. #criticalthinking #factchecking #socialmedia

I disagree with Andrew Tate. Sure going viral can help you avoid paying for impressions. But how many brands can actually go viral? And how often can they go viral? Consistency/predictability are out of the question, especially at scale. Imagine ordering 7-figures worth of inventory & betting the house on going viral OR you'll not be able to move it. Not to mention the biggest companies in the world like Facebook & Google letting go of their main revenue streams. Not going to happen so easily. Sure things are changing rapidly thanks to AI, but I don't see Ads becoming obsolete as long as capitalism is alive. The ROIs aren't the same as 7 years ago, but everyone is still running Facebook/Google ads. What's your take?

Regardless of where you stand on social media content moderation, the market has already signaled that we’ve reached peak social media. Platforms are fragmenting, growth rates are slowing, and new foundational technologies—and hardware—are entering the scene. A hostile environment will likely accelerate the decline of individual platforms. We are at the beginning of the end of social media’s dominance. The real question is: what industry will take its place?

She's right. The passive scroll-and-consume model is losing appeal as people crave more purposeful and engaging interactions. An active and immersive shift is likely on the horizon, with potential successors to social media (or it's evolution) including: - Immersive Social Computing: AR/VR technologies fused with social interaction, enabling users to share entire spaces or experiences rather than static updates. This could redefine work, socializing, and creativity through more embodied interactions. - AI-Mediated Networks: Platforms powered by AI to foster deeper, curated connections. These systems could organize real-world meetups or facilitate meaningful conversations based on shared interests, moving away from broadcast-style sharing. - Decentralized Digital Identity Platforms: Privacy-focused systems where users own and control their digital presence across interoperable spaces, reducing reliance on corporate platforms and addressing data privacy concerns. - Experience Commerce: A seamless blend of entertainment, socializing, and shopping, where activities like live shopping and content creation converge into an integrated experience. - Augmented Memory Networks: Tools for capturing, organizing, and sharing experiences more richly, potentially incorporating brain-computer interfaces or advanced wearables for enhanced memory and storytelling.
