The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center recently released "Persistence and Retention: Fall 2022 Beginning Postsecondary Student Cohort," examining trends in the percentages of first-year postsecondary students who return for a second year at any institution (persistence) as well as at those who continue at the same institution (retention). Among all the institutional sectors, community colleges had the highest gains in retention rates over the past decade. The rate rose 3.7 percentage points from Fall 2013 (51.3% to 55.0%), as opposed to a climb of only 3.3 percentage points across all institutional sectors (64.9% to 68.2%). Community colleges are playing an increasingly important role in getting students to and through the education-to-career pipeline. Excited to present some of my research with Justin Bathon this evening at University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA). We will be speaking about how industry partnerships can bridge the growing skills gap and address workforce development needs through effective Career and Technical Education programs. By integrating research-based strategies and equitable practices, we will highlight how transformative collaborations can prepare students for high-demand careers while fostering mutual benefit for education and industry. This work sits in the broader context of my dissertation at the University of Kentucky, which explores the role of strategic partnerships in transforming educational systems to drive workforce development, equity, and community engagement. By examining how schools and industries can collaborate effectively, my research aims to develop scalable models that prepare students for the future while addressing systemic challenges.

An important paper indeed - admissions professionals at all levels at tuition-dependent, small colleges should be well aware of how crucial distance is in recruitment strategy. This includes junior and even entry-level recruiters. Looking forward to this article's publication. #admissions #collegeadmissions #collegerecruitment #highered

According to the WSJ, the Missouri University of Science and Technology is the top public university in the state. Nationally, S&T outdoes schools like NYU, CUNY, and Fordham. "Our ranking measures how well each college sets graduates up for financial success. We look at how much a school improves students’ chances of graduating and their future earnings, balancing these outcomes with feedback from students on college life. We don’t measure reputation, nor the college’s own finances."

I'm thrilled to share my thesis with all of you, a culmination of two months of hard work, research, and passion. It took a while to post as I settled in beautiful Hawai'i, but I’m excited to finally present it. Dive into the abstract below to get a better understanding of what I've been exploring. Your feedback and thoughts are highly appreciated! In many high schools across the United States, students grapple with the challenge of selecting the perfect topic for their college essays. Often, it takes only one sentence to understand the direction of a college essay. This study explores the nuanced history of affirmative action from President John F. Kennedy's 1961 Executive Order to recent Supreme Court decisions, analyzing its intersection with race and class status. Through qualitative interviews, this study focuses specifically on BIPOC students, delving into whether they feel compelled to center their college essays around traumatic stories and assesses the potential influence of the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action on their choice of essay topics. Simultaneously, it delves into college essay dynamics, highlighting a strategic shift where students emphasize personal growth over resilience. College counselors potentially influence trauma-related topics, while narratives of failure or community service demonstrate more independent choices.

Colleges and universities respond to institutional barriers as they can, but a few of the barriers to education that are most deterrent of enrollment for some groups include things like transportation, child care, and food security. What are some creative ways that schools have tried to mitigate these situational effects?
