Canva: Democratizing Design
In 2012, Melanie Perkins noticed a problem: design tools were too complex, expensive, and exclusive to professionals. With a bold vision to make design accessible to everyone, she built Canva—an intuitive platform where anyone could create stunning graphics with ease. From presentations to social media posts, Canva turned design into a universal skill.
Today, with over 60 million users and a $40 billion valuation, Canva empowers students, businesses, and creators globally, proving that innovation thrives when simplicity meets purpose.
At Lichivi, we share Canva’s mission to break barriers. By automating workflows, simplifying processes, and building scalable tools, we help businesses create their own unicorns.
What’s the next big idea you’ll simplify? Let’s make it a reality. 🚀✨ #CanvaJourney#BuildYourUnicorn#LichiviSolutions#DesignMadeEasy#InnovationForAll
Yesterday, I spent some free time on YouTube learning about design using the Canva platform. In the initial lectures, they discussed the design thinking process, which includes the following steps:
Empathize → Discover → Ideate → Prototype → Production → Launch.
At first glance, this approach seems simple. However, many of us struggle to fully grasp this process in various aspects of our lives. Trust me, it’s not just applicable to client interactions; you can apply it in any area of life. The nuances may vary, but the principles remain the same.
As a famous quote states,
“Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer's toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements of business success.”

Melanie Perkins has revolutionized graphic design with 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘃𝗮.
Here's an approach to product innovation 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀:
1. 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: Melanie recognized that traditional design software was too complex for most people. She saw an opportunity to democratize design by making it accessible to everyone, regardless of their technical skills.
2. 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Canva's success is largely due to its intuitive interface. Melanie emphasizes the importance of creating a product that's so easy to use, it feels almost magical. This involves constant user testing and iterative improvements based on feedback.
3. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺: Instead of chasing short-term gains, Melanie focuses on building a product with lasting impact. This means sometimes saying no to immediate opportunities that don't align with Canva's long-term vision of empowering the world to design.
4. Foster a culture of innovation: Melanie believes that great ideas can come from anywhere. She encourages a workplace culture where every team member, regardless of their role, feels empowered to contribute ideas and experiment. This approach has led to some of Canva's most successful features.

𝐈𝐟 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐯𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞, 𝐒𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮
When I started using Canva, it was just a design tool, something quick and easy for creating captivating images and artwork for my brand. It made visuals look great, and that was enough.
But , over the years, Canva has evolved into something much bigger. With every update, it’s gone beyond design, integrating workflow optimization, collaboration, and now, data collection. With its latest Jotform integration, Canva is no longer just about making things look good; it’s about making them work smarter(Of course we checked it out). Now, instead of static graphics, we can embed forms directly inside designs to collect feedback, capture leads, and streamline workflows - all in one place. It’s shifting from a creative tool to a business efficiency powerhouse.
And it got me thinking, if Canva is evolving to meet business needs, am I evolving to meet my clients' needs? Today’s clients don’t just want service providers; they want problem solvers. They need professionals who go beyond surface-level skills, who understand how to use tools strategically to save time, improve workflows, and drive better results.
Canva is making it easier than ever to integrate design with functionality, but it’s also sending us a clear message: staying relevant means staying ahead. That means learning new tools, adapting to changes, and always finding better ways to serve.
So, here’s my question for you: how are you preparing to stay ahead and beat redundancy?
