Can you engineer creator market fit — the perfect convergence of great content, an engaged audience and a business model that makes it all work? Marissa Hill (aka ShadeTV on YouTube) might have cracked the code. She was a guest speaker at my UCLA Extension class this semester. She’s also partnered with every sneaker brand you can think, collaborated with YouTube among other platforms, and has spoken at ALL the conferences. In fact, you’ll see her at VidCon as a featured creator this summer. And her origin story as a creator is fascinating and one of the most intentional I’ve encountered. Before getting started, Hill considered the elements that could make a creator successful. She told the class about launching her YouTube channel during the pandemic and how she saw a void in the market that she could fill. Step 1 - She looked for a gap and thought about how to fill it She wanted to give a female perspective on topics surrounding hype culture and sneakers, which she didn’t see represented at the time. Step 2 - She intentionally set out to work with specific companies Marissa developed a list of companies that she really wanted to connect and work with. Some people fall into brand partnerships after brands reach out to them. The accidental influencers. She knew the business model she wanted her channel to have right from the start. Step 3 - An engaged audience was the question mark The variable she couldn't predict was whether there was a demand for a woman in this space and if people were going to enjoy the content. She loved creating the content and was able to find potential sponsors pretty quickly but without an audience she wouldn’t have a viable channel as a full time creator. It was a risk but ultimately it worked out for her. And it's been fascinating to watch. #YouTube #ShadeTV #Creators

🚗 *Renting Success?* 🤔 Let’s talk about *those* influencers on social media. You know the ones—posing in front of rented Lamborghinis, flashing wads of cash, and talking about “hustle culture” like they’ve got the world all figured out. But here’s the truth: **A lot of it’s fake**. 🤷♂️ Behind the scenes, many of them are renting cars, staging photos, and putting up a front of success they haven’t really achieved. It’s easy to get sucked into thinking you’re falling behind or doing something wrong because their life looks glamorous. Success isn’t about the rented lifestyle. It’s about building something real—through hard work, consistency, and patience. Don’t be fooled by filters and flashy captions. Focus on your own journey, and don’t measure your success against someone else’s highlight reel. 💡 Trust the process, not the pose. 💼 #RealSuccess #InfluencerReality #StayFocused #PersonalGrowth #SocialMediaMyths

At the core of my journey as a creative entrepreneur are values that guide everything I do: helping others, fostering positivity, creating opportunities, building community, and embracing entrepreneurship. These principles are key not only for individual growth but also for uplifting those around us. I’m excited to share that I recently launched a talent agency, and I’ll be working with @WeAre8 to onboard a roster of content creators, creatives, influencers, public figures, and celebrities. Our goal is to build a community that champions accountability, positivity, and real impact in today’s digital landscape. I recently sat down with the amazing team at WeAre8 to discuss these values and my journey. We explored the evolving role of influencers, the power of community, and how creativity can help shape a better world. WeAre8 is a platform dedicated to empowering creatives and fostering meaningful social interactions that drive change, and I’m thrilled to be part of this movement. Stay tuned for more insights as we work together to bring new talent to a platform that understands the importance of making a difference! #CreativeEntrepreneur #TalentAgency #HelpingOthers #Positivity #OpportunityCreation #Community #Entrepreneurship #WeAre8 #Empowerment #SocialImpact #DigitalCommunity

THIS is how brands should do creator partnerships Julia Huynh went viral on TikTok for finding a hoodie that ‘hoodies’ Following her viral sensation, many brands sent her their hoodies to be reviewed But GAP did a BETTER thing. GAP reached out to Julia to co-create her own hoodie. This is genius because: → Julia is now the key opinion leader for people who wants to buy a good hoodie → Through co-creating, her audience will trust the product even more Needless to say, her followers are excited to buy her hoodie in collaboration with GAP! I do believe brands should think innovatively when collaborating with creators. Brands who will be able to deliver collabs beyond social media will thrive! What do you think of GAP’s strategy? Repost with your thoughts if you find it useful!

Is it a watch? Is it a sports band? Nope, it's Whoop! Scrolling endlessly through posts, videos & stories on your socials, you notice something similar in a couple of them. Some of your favourite athletes, influencers and celebrities are wearing this thing which looks like a watch but with no display or screen. This is how I discovered WHOOP. Will Ahmed, founder of WHOOP, wanted to make something athletes can use to measure recovery and optimise their performance. He thought of getting world's top athletes to use it first. And then, turn it into a brand. Following the Liking Principle of Persuasion. "The mind tends to believe a person we like is trustworthy. You would subconsciously trust a brand, cause you see someone you like using it or endorsing it." Well, he was successful. Michael Phelps and LeBron James were one of the first 100 users of WHOOP. WHOOP is a $3.6B wearable-tech company now. Do you or anyone you know use Whoop? I would love to know more about the user experience. #entrepreneurship #branding #marketing
