Aptima Scientist Dr. Summer Rebensky and Associate Scientist María Chaparro Osman, Ph.D., the team behind the I/ITSEC Best Paper nominee in 2023 for “Wires Crossed in A Digital World: How to Prevent Misalignments in Human and AI Decision Making”, will be presenting the design of a novel system intersecting human factors, cognitive modeling, and recommendation AI to explore approaches for collaborative human-AI teaming in an upcoming, free Tech Grove Connect Webinar hosted by NATIONAL TRAINING & SIMULATION ASSOCIATION (NTSA). They conducted a series of usability and system design evaluations that explored (a) information that users consider when making trust judgments, (b) unobtrusive behavioral measures that integrate into cognitive models to predict when trust falls, and (c) trust calibrations when cognitive model predictions did not match user actions—providing the AI an opportunity to build trust by intervening at the right time in the right way. User behavior, impressions, and self-report responses were examined to understand what user behaviors emerge when users perceive a tool to be working collaboratively. Specific guidance on designing recommendation AI that can leverage behaviors and cognitive modeling for naturalistic interaction as well as system calibration techniques to improve a user’s perception system competency are discussed. ⭐ THRIVE coming to the Maximum City on November 11! ⭐ Looking forward to this event in Mumbai. Fears and uncertainties about the future of AI are running rampant across the media. These worries are especially commonplace when it comes to business. Will businesses use this technology for good? Will I still have a job or will I be replaced? Are the robots coming to get us? This technology is much more layered, it’s much more complex than prior general purpose technologies, such as electricity, computing, and even going all the way back to the steam engine. AI is much more intangible and as a result, people go toward the doom and gloom of what this could be. Ravi and I wrote this book to demystify all this for the common person and give them agency.
