Celebrating Black Belt Graduation: A Milestone in Education Today July 20, 2024, we proudly celebrate a remarkable achievement: #1MillionTeachers earned their black belts in 1st Dan, 2nd Dan, and 3rd Dan in the ancient commercial city of Kano. It was inspiring to see top anchor schools among the honorees and the addition of a College of Education to the esteemed list of black belters. The journey continues, and the flame of excellence in education burns brighter than ever. Our mission is to create lasting excellence in education, ensuring the spirit of 1 million teachers thrives in every classroom, school, and across Kano. "Show me your educational system, and I can tell you how your country is doing. Show me how you treat your teachers, and I can tell you the quality of your schools." We need a grassroots movement to empower teachers. No one else will solve this for us. The #1MT program is designed to be a toolbox for teachers. In a world where technology thrives, great teachers remain irreplaceable. This program is about empowerment: you have the toolbox—what will you do with it? Kano is not just a state but a beacon competing on a global scale. No one has ever become anything without a teacher. Teachers are like the US Marines known for their discipline and resilience. As educators, we must not see ourselves as transient workers but as dedicated professionals shaping the future. UNESCO predicts that by 2030, 50% of current teachers will exit the profession, and the world will need to recruit 40 million teachers, with 15 million from Africa. We must build our capacity and rise to the challenge. The time to act is now.

#weneedblackteachers We need less gatekeeping measures. Potential teachers must test to get into teaching prep programs, pass test to graduate from those same programs, test to be certified. Go through additional programs after certification. Graduate from undergrad and pay for a Masters to keep certification. All that for pay that you can barely live on. #weneedblackteachers
The Center’s Sharif El-Mekki shared why #WeNeedBlackTeachers during a hearing in front of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce in Washington, DC. Hiring and retaining Black educators are key steps to supporting student success. We’re doing the work to make it possible through programs like our Training Academy and #BlackTeacherPipeline Fellowship. Read El-Mekki’s full testimony: https://lnkd.in/gqxF7eGf

NCBAE’s What’s the 411? gives community the opportunity to meet some of the dopest folks we know! This series will introduce new concepts, people doing extraordinary things in their fields, shed light on little known topics and invite viewers into a world there are no limits to what we can do and are doing! Meet Dr. Holly McGee, Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati. Learn about how she can help connect you to opportunities and how you can attend an upcoming national conference hosted in Cincinnati, OH! Did you know? 1. Unmatched Talent and Excellence in Education and Beyond – Black teachers and professionals are highly qualified, bringing not only academic and professional credentials but also lived experiences that enrich workplaces and classrooms. Despite this, biases in hiring practices sometimes prevent organizations from fully benefiting from their expertise. By prioritizing equitable hiring strategies, companies and schools can ensure they are tapping into a wealth of Black talent that enhances innovation and student success. 2. Strong Professional Networks and Leadership Potential – Black educators and professionals continuously excel in leadership roles, mentorship, and community engagement. While they have historically been excluded from certain professional networks, many have built powerful, self-sustaining communities that cultivate success. Creating more inclusive hiring pipelines allows organizations to benefit from this dynamic leadership and the wealth of knowledge Black professionals bring to their industries. 3. Resilience and Excellence in Education and Training – Black professionals often emerge from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and other institutions that have produced some of the nation’s most influential leaders, scholars, and changemakers. By recognizing the strength and rigor of these educational backgrounds, institutions and businesses can more effectively recruit and support Black professionals who are well-equipped to lead, innovate, and inspire. #NCBAE #art #entertainment #NBTA #NCBS #teachers #university #africanamerican #AfricanaStudies #college #conference #consulting #UC
