"Our story so far has been one of resilience and staying in the race," says Simon Phelan, founder and chief executive of Hometree , a nine-year-old home services company that competes with the likes of British Gas and Homeserve. "I had a business plan in 2015 that said 'Financing green home improvements'. It has been core to the vision, but it was clear the market wasn’t ready," he tells Richard Tyler in this week's What I learnt... interview. After instead building a gas boiler insurance services business, Hometree has now raised about £85 million in venture capital, including from Legal & General Capital, to start to address Phelan's original plan. Last year he secured a £300 million debt facility from Barclays UK and CPP Investments | Investissements RPC, a Canadian pension fund so he can dramatically increase Hometree's financing of domestic renewable energy installations in the UK, over the next three years. https://lnkd.in/dRKEe8VN #entrepreneurs
