The VideoRay: underwater robots we use are crucial for our work. They have become our most important tool for efficient and effective search and recovery operations, not to mention for the safety of our divers.
It's humbling for VideoRay to play even a small role in the critically important and meticulous search and recovery work that the HEARTeam performs free of charge to assist grieving families of drowning victims. Although we wish that no one would ever find themselves in this heartbreaking situation - we're blessed to have professionals like Manuel Maendel and his dedicated team who give so freely of their time and talents. https://hubs.la/Q02CXsC50

As we observe National Road Victim Month this August, it is crucial to address the pressing need for law reform in the UK concerning road safety and compensation victims and their families. One significant issue is the restrictive definition of 'family' which unjustly excludes certain family members from receiving statutory compensation. Moreover the stark contrast in bereavement damages between England and Wales, fixed at £15,120 and Scotland's more flexible and inclusive approach. #RoadSafety #LawReform #InclusiveCompensation #NationalRoadVictimMonth
"Behind every one of the 1,711 people who died on UK roads is a story. A person who had friends, family, ambitions, and dreams. Their families will feel their loss forever." - President Kim Harrison in APIL's latest blog about National Road Victim Month by RoadPeace "However, thousands of loving family members and friends are ineligible for statutory compensation because of the outdated and archaic way England and Wales define ‘family’." Isn’t it fascinating how our leaders transform into Nobel Peace Prize candidates every time a camera flashes? The Bondi Junction tragedy has them "shocked & appalled," yet the silent epidemic of INTIMATE PARTNER HOMOCIDE leaves them mysteriously unphotographed & under-commented. Let's peel back the veneer of political empathy & dive into the murky waters of selective compassion & headline-worthy heroics. If compassion had a stock market, are our politicians investing only when there’s a tragedy that trends on Twitter? Where is this urgent compassion when EVERY FIVE DAYS a woman is KILLED by her ex/partner in Australia? It’s almost as if those victims don’t have the right public relations team to make their plight “newsworthy.” When did compassion become a selective application rather than a universal reaction? Are we in a new era where a tragedy's importance is measured by its potential to go viral rather than the depth of the human suffering involved? Could it be that without public pressure, our leaders would happily remain actors on the stage of global sympathy, bowing at the end of each tragedy, only to disappear behind the curtains of inaction? Shall we continue to accept this "thoughts & prayers" approach, or do we start demanding a script change in this tragedy-laden drama we call political responsiveness? The choice, as always, is in our less photogenic, but profoundly capable hands. Photo Op Compassion Index: Why is it that our government leaders show up, flowers in hand, when tragedy strikes in the headlines, yet the quiet crisis IPH is met with what? Deafening silence? How about we start rating political responses like we do with movies? I give this performance a solid five—out of a hundred. They say a squeaky wheel gets the grease, but apparently, you need a full-blown media circus to get any real attention. IPH is screaming in the background, & what do we get? Muted whispers in policy corridors. Isn’t it time we turned up the volume on those whispers to a roar? Compassion Lottery: Imagine a game show where the prize is genuine government action. Sadly, it seems like IPH drew the short straw. What does it take to get the jackpot of justice and protection? Or is the system only rigged for high-stakes, high-publicity tragedies? Heroes and Zeroes: We applaud the bravery of police officers and everyday citizens stepping up in a crisis—genuinely, they're heroes. But where are our policy heroes when it comes to the slow-motion crisis of IPH? Are they hiding in the wings, waiting for a cue that never comes? The Great Distraction: Finally, isn't it convenient how big tragedies can overshadow the ongoing ones? It's like watching a magician—while we're all focused on the flashy trick, the real action is happening offstage. Maybe it's time we all paid attention to the man behind the curtain. So, let's keep asking the uncomfortable questions. Because if we don't, who will? Let's not settle for compassion that's only skin deep.

Today this community has come together to mourn the victims of this devastating atrocity and offer its sympathy to those who have lost loved ones.
