It's no secret in 2024 that everything has become more expensive. Even sales of menstrual products have declined due to high prices (Tampon, pad prices nearly double over last 5 years due to inflation (https://lnkd.in/eYYrWAHR)). However, in many cases the price increases are significantly outpacing the rate of inflation - especially in the fast food industry. The largest offenders? McDonalds, Popeyes, Taco Bell, and Chipotle. While inflation has caused around a 31% price increase from 2014-2024, McDonalds price increases are closer to 100%. Popeyes, 86%. Taco Bell, 81%. Chipotle comes in at 75%. This is what frustrates me about the ever-decreasing purchasing power we are experiencing - yes, some of it is inevitable inflation, as the costs of production increase across the board. But a lot of it is corporations trying to stay ahead of investor expectations and growth projections, and hurting the end consumer. Only when the companies begin to face consumer backlash for these egregious increases will they course correct. Until then, we budget and try to hang on as everything around us becomes unaffordable. Beer makers were hoping that the warmer-than-usual dry spell this summer will more than make up for the dry days during the national election. Considering the evolving economic landscape and changing consumer preferences, we maintain an optimistic outlook for the upcoming summer season, anticipating a high single-digit growth for the beer industry compared to the previous summer. However, we do anticipate certain supply chain disruptions stemming from the restrictions imposed by states during elections. I believe all that scorching heat has covered🍻

Losing a bigger race is better than winning a smaller one. Years ago, 7-Up was THE lemon-lime soda. They were ahead of even Sprite. 7-Up forfeited the race though. Why? They spotted a bigger opportunity... Cola. Way more people drank colas than lemon-lime sodas. Two out of every three soft drinks drunk in America were colas. Suddenly, 7-Up was in the cola race (up against the likes of Coke and Pepsi). They pulled no punches. 7-Up rolled out a brilliant advertising campaign called “The Uncola”. In doing so, they gave up their position as the "best lemon-lime soda". And, they became the "best alternative to cola". 7-Ups sales skyrocketed. The lesson? Happy to be on WUSA Channel 9 to support small businesses. The legislature made a promise to small business owners that neither chains nor supermarkets could have beer, wine and liquor licenses. Many small business owners invested their entire net worth in their businesses when they relied on the legislature's promise. If the legislature breaks this promise then individuals, many of them recent immigrants, will face financial ruin. Yes, other states have supermarkets with beer, wine and liquor. In those states, when the small business opens, those small business owners know that supermarkets and chains carry beer wine and liquor.
