If you specialize in oil and gas asset management, then you need to keep these two things in mind when searching for a new job: 1) Numbers speak louder than words. Especially if you're interested in working for private equity firms, data will speak volumes when it comes to showing - rather than just telling - what sets you apart from the competition. And you WILL need to stand apart from the competition since this line is work is so competitive. Focus on quantifying ROI and break down your M&A project experience. 2) Your titles will be wonky. It will be rare for you to see a job title that's right on the nose and has 'asset management' in the title. Instead, many of your ideal titles may look like this: Senior Associate, M&A Director of Business Development Commercial Advisor Senior Manager, Strategy & Planning Typically, technical production and reservoir skills are mixed in as well.
