World Water Day 2025—recognized March 22—is highlighting one of the planet’s most precious and precarious freshwater resources: glaciers. Seventy percent of the Earth’s freshwater exists as snow and ice. As this frozen water melts, it plays an inimitable part in feeding the world’s rivers and ultimately providing drinking water to populations around the globe. Freshwater conservation is a crucial strategy for protecting public health and the planet.
