Building on our previous study (Wu and Eftekhar: https://lnkd.in/eZQit6vP), which showed that volunteering increases the likelihood of monetary donations, Chao Wu, Joline Uichanco, and I developed a new volunteer management model that considers the potential for volunteers' future donations. By factoring in show-up uncertainty and the performance levels of both formal and episodic volunteers, as well as their future donation behavior, this model helps charities determine the optimal number of volunteers to invite for each event. This year at Christmas, SRL has chosen to support Give Food, a UK charity that’s making a tangible difference by combining data with action to address local and structural food insecurity. Through their innovative approach, they can track and showcase the impact of donations in real terms. For example, the funds from SRL can: Deliver 1 to 1.1 tonnes of food and supplies and provide a detailed online dashboard showing the weight, number of items, and calories donated, along with maps of food bank locations receiving the supplies. Every penny counts. With 100% of donations going directly to food and supplies, their transparency and efficiency are helping make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
