After discussing individual and collective actions, I guided my students on how to write a letter to an elected official about a climate justice issue they cared about. As future teachers, they are making a big difference! #STEMeducation #ClimateEducation #TeacherPrep https://lnkd.in/eMWq_juV

Between now and the end of the year is a vital window for us to get nature recovery and its benefits for carbon capture, biodiversity, water and soil health higher up the political agenda of whatever government we have.
This is hugely important for our children and grandchildren. Please do sign this petition and send the automated email to your parliamentary candidates which is linked to it. Only takes about 30 seconds.

There is only one thing Dims will not ban, their ability to ban things. They want to control everything and everyone. They stink and need ban roll on. I and you may not care about some of these things they want to ban (see article). But the point is this, will they stop with these things to ban? They will eventually get around to banning single family homes, remember the scene in Doctor Zhivago. If it can happen it might happen. If it has happened before, it can happen again. We must defend our liberty against the power of our government. From James Madison: "The most systemic governments are turned by the slightest impulse from their regular path, when the public opinion no longer holds them in it... How devoutly is it to be wished, then, that the public of the United States should be enlighten; that it should attach itself to their governments as delineated in the great charters, derived not from the usurped power of kings, but from the legitimate authority of the people... Liberty and order will never be perfectly safe..." National Gazette January 19, 1792 "We the people" can stop this runaway Biden administration by banning them in the polling booths this November.

🔊Courts are becoming key players in the climate fight. Find out how they address the climate emergency & shape the energy transition. 👇🏽
⚖️Global climate action is expanding beyond street protests to the courtroom. 🎙️Discover how this shift is shaping the energy transition & driving accountability: https://bit.ly/3TmsYeX As climate impacts worsen and necessary actions lag, legal cases against governments and companies are on the rise. CIEL’s Climate and Energy program Director Nikki Reisch discussed the increasing role of courts in advancing climate action on Policy Dispatch with Sam Morgan. Learn who’s leading the charge in these climate court cases, the outcomes we’re seeing, and the impact on the energy transition. As Nikki highlights: “People are turning to courts because the impacts of climate change are escalating and the action to address the drivers of the crisis is lagging. Courts are now crucial in compelling governments and companies to act to prevent further harm.”

I read a bit of this article, which is complaining about EU flag wavers at the Last Night of the Proms (read further for a climate change angle too). There's a quote there from someone who both sang with energy and had an EU flag confiscated. https://lnkd.in/ewQ5HG9p There seems to be a set of our media that is incapable of understanding that it is possible to both be patriotic and support the EU. A common thread in our current poor quality public discourse, it seems to me, is a mutual lack of understanding between folk who can have two views balanced at the same time and those who have one. After millions of years of human discourse this seems a weird fundamental lack of mutual comprehension. The climate change connection is that I see the same disconnect in mental views of the world. One group of people has a version of reality and doesn't seem able or willing to acknowledge that it might be wrong. For those of us who try and balance our current existence with a possible alternative future, managing the dissonance is hard - but necessary. The core challenge of climate change communication therefore might be to either: 1. Work out how to enable single-minded folk to take on board a second version of reality or 2. Decide to let them get on with it and reality will just catch up with them eventually.

Who we elect for U.S. President will make all the difference in the world for our planet and our people. https://lnkd.in/gVWUUrKD There’s still time to make a difference in the elections. Join the Sierra Club’s phone banking efforts (between now and Nov. 5th) to encourage Dem voters in Pennsylvania (a critical swing state) to get to the polls. Climate change is the #1 threat to our oceans as it is heating them up and acidifying them which will result in the loss of up to 90% of our ocean life: whales, dolphins, octopuses, coral reefs, fishes, and food for 2 billion people by 2045 (when ocean pH is expected to reach 7.95 a major tipping point): https://lnkd.in/gKR5ijuN And as we have all seen, the unnaturally warm ocean waters are spawning devastating hurricanes and rain and flooding events that are so catastrophic to so many people across the planet. Here’s what a second Trump presidency would mean for climate change: https://lnkd.in/gSPn6yj5 There is no greater threat to our oceans, planet, and people than climate change. And there is no greater action we can take than helping elect leaders that will take meaningful action on climate change today. Tomorrow is too late.

As the temperature rises, so do the stakes of the 2024 election. Climate change is a reality we can’t ignore, and it’s more important than ever to vote for leaders who understand that. VP Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz are the climate champions we need to continue our progress. Don’t let this election pass you by—your vote can help secure a future with clean energy, lower costs, and healthier communities.

At last, a common sense decision from the judiciary on the right of ordinary people to go about their lives unhampered by self- appointed arbiters of climate change activism. Ironically, the emissions from idling traffic stuck on the M25 during these protests most likely caused more harm than good, but the real losers, notwithstanding the losses outlined in the article, are the intelligent and thoughtful advocates of emission reduction. Indiscriminate actions such as this cause anger, among those so unfairly affected, towards all advocates of reducing climate change. Eco-terrorism is no way to get support for the cause. It is encouraging to note that the new administration has "no plans to change the tougher sentencing laws brought in by the Conservatives." However, it remains to be see whether the considerable "tail" of the Parliamentary Labour Party, will wag the "dog" of the Cabinet, and attempt to subvert this decision. https://lnkd.in/ew9Th7up

I find Ray Dalio's thoughts on the weakening of the environmental agenda and the reasons behind it very intriguing. As the conversation around climate action evolves, it’s important to consider the economic and political forces at play. What are your thoughts on this? How do you see the future of the environmental movement in light of these challenges? #ClimateAction #RayDalio #Sustainability #EnvironmentalAgenda
Expect This from the Trump Administration
