Groundswell, Inc. reposted this
Just two years ago, my friend and colleague at Groundswell Deitra Crawley and I had a prayerful conversation about bringing the SOUL work we do repairing people’s homes and making them more energy efficient to East Alabama. Her father was mayor in Lanett, and my daddy’s family is from the Level Roads area near Wadley. God answers prayers, and He does so with great abundance. Yesterday, our Groundswell, Inc. team kicked off a 3-year, $20 million effort to repair 500 homes and build 10 community resilience hubs across six counties: Lee, Randolph, Chambers, Macon, and Tallapoosa in AL and Troup in Georgia. Led by Mayor Heard of Lanett, a wonderful community of mayors came together alongside local community groups including ACROSS, Habitat, CAFI, and Circle of Care to align all our resources, expertise, and love for the places we live and serve to make this possible. And the entire area legislative delegation has been warmly welcoming with lots of great recommendations for how we can get the best work done for the most people. It’s a wonderful expression of unity of purpose and how we can love our neighbors in our work.
This brings tears to my eyes. What a beautiful example of what a public private partnership can do for communities. The power of purpose.
I love your work, as always.
Fabulous news. Great list of partner agencies. This is how things get done!
