Welcoming Peter Randrup to the EnviroStrat team as our newly established role of Seaweed Innovation Lead for Greenwave Aotearoa 👏 Peter has been busy in recent weeks hatching seaweed babies - it's super exciting work and great news for the future commercialisation potential of seaweed in New Zealand, and for reef restoration. As the manager of the Sulphur Point hatchery for Greenwave Aotearoa, Peter was instrumental over the past 3+ years growing seaweed in hatcheries and in the ocean. He was awarded #1 Research Technician at the University of Waikato School of Science in 2023 for his work on Greenwave Aotearoa, was a finalist in the New Zealand Innovation Awards and is an Edmund Hillary Fellow. Beyond his professional pursuits, Peter is also the New Zealand Ceroc Dance Champion, though the EnviroStrat team is still waiting lessons! The Christmas lead-up has been a busy time for our Greenwave Aotearoa team, which has developed techniques to cultivate four species of native seaweed from broodstock, beyond the initial work on just the single species of Ecklonia radiata. Look out for it this summer if you're in New Zealand. It is a beautiful golden kelp and where it grows is where fauna thrive. You can learn more about Greenwave Aotearoa at our website www.greenwave.nz and happy holidays for those lucky enough to get a break!
I’m super excited to be on board!
Greenwave Aotearoa and EnviroStrat, looks like really interesting progress and innovation, amazing to think 10 years ago… seaweed wasn’t really a thing, other than in a number of small niche areas and markets…
Great hire!
Congrats Peter Randrup!!!!
