As a marketing consultant, there are two things that immediately signal a business I’d be excited to work with: 1. A clear vision for where the company needs to go 2. An honest understanding of where the company currently stands When a founder has a well-defined vision, it demonstrates purpose and direction, giving everyone a shared goal to work towards. It sets a strong foundation for developing strategic marketing efforts that align with the company’s long-term ambitions. At the same time, when the founder has an honest understanding of the company’s current state, it reveals their realistic approach and self-awareness. This transparency allows us to address challenges directly and make the most of existing strengths. When these elements are in place, it not only gives me confidence in crafting an impactful marketing strategy but also makes me genuinely want to be a part of their journey toward growth and success.

When it comes to marketing, alignment is everything. Your message, your values, your calling... they’re not just details. They’re the foundation of everything else you do. Because here’s the truth: ✨ If your marketing doesn’t resonate with you, it won’t resonate with others. ✨ If it feels forced or out of alignment, it will show. 👉 But when your marketing reflects who you truly are, it becomes magnetic. Aligned marketing isn’t about following trends or doing what everyone else is doing. It’s about showing up in a way that feels natural and genuine to you. Ask yourself: Does this approach feel true to my values? Does it reflect the energy I want to share? Would I feel good if I were on the receiving end of this? When your marketing is in alignment, everything changes. You stop feeling like you’re “trying” to attract people. Instead, you draw in those who genuinely connect with you and what you stand for. This year, make alignment your priority. Let your marketing match your energy and reflect your heart. Because when you’re in alignment, the right people will always find their way to you. 💜

Business strategy → Marketing strategy → Creative strategy It can’t go any other way to be effective. Good marketing is simply an expression of your business strategy. If you have a well-articulated business strategy, then you have a solid footing to create a meaningful marketing strategy. And once you have that, then you can develop the creative execution. Alignment is key. I don’t know about you, but this is what I’ve found to be the most challenging part of marketing. Interpreting the business strategy with a marketing lens. Then from the marketing strategy landing on the right creative execution. When it happens it’s glorious. Otherwise you get that 'pebble in your shoe' feeling. You're still moving forward but each step is an irritating reminder that something's wrong. At least that’s been my experience.

3 main points that the majority of current marketing plans lack I have experienced most often marketing plans where tactics dominate, with the 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀. What are the key parts that are missing? 𝟭. 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 Marketing plan preparation should be a collaborative process. Too often, these plans are created in isolation by the marketing department without adequate input from other business areas. The business must be actively involved throughout the process to gain full buy-in and ensure alignment. 𝟮. 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 Many plans I have seen lack clear marketing objectives connected to business objectives. Instead, they focus on communication goals, without addressing how marketing contributes to the overall growth or success of the organization. 𝟯. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 Insights and customer data are often missing or not used in marketing plans. A strong marketing strategy should be grounded in the connection between business needs and how those needs translate to the market. Understanding customers is critical. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗱 As a result, the marketing plan often becomes an exercise for its own sake. It isn’t fully implemented across the organization and is rarely referred to once completed. 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 I rarely encountered a plan with a clearly defined, focused positioning. Often, the positioning is very broad, with statements about the brand being "for everyone." Would you add anything?
