Congratulations to 📱 Cindy Krum on finally proving what Michael King & I have believed to be the case for over a decade. From my research article "Googlebot is Chrome" back in 2011: "Yes, user data from the opt-in program is highly relevant and highly valuable to what they do… but this could have been achieved through plugins, add-ons, and integration agreements as they have done with the Google Toolbar and the Firefox Search Licensing arrangement without the extra burdens related to managing and supporting the Chromium Project. What if Chrome was in fact a repackaging of their search crawler; affectionately known as Googlebot, for the consumer environment? How much more valuable would user behavioral data if it could be mapped to their Search Stack on a 1:1 basis?" Link is in the comments.

📱 Cindy Krum just dropped the most important thing you'll see in SEO this week. Possibly this month. Maybe even this year. She shows evidence of how Google is using Chrome to crowdsource rendering and user signals -- among other very revealing things. You need to watch this immediately, if not sooner.

You know what major technology platforms do when they are fighting for billion-dollar markets? They share a lot of white lies and obfuscate details with technical noise, often using executive technical roles in the company to shield themselves from the secret sauce being worked on in the kitchen. Take a look at Google: in many cases, what Google's official technical statements say is often a blended example of 'how it could work' rather than 'how it does work.' This is simply how they protect trade secrets and mislead industry competitors trying to monetize high-value industries. Below is a prime example: 5+ years ago, Google used A LOT of propaganda to secure a competitive advantage on a variety of high-value business interests. They went 'mobile first' - and they did this by essentially turning Chrome into a huge data harvesting engine. This behavior of user data being cached and relayed caused some pretty hefty cyber and operational security issues starting back in 2018, and it took a 'data dump' this year to pull A LOT of SEO professionals back into the reality of questioning Google's PR dog food. It took the SEO industry 5 to 8 years to re-align itself to questioning core 'truths' that Google promoted. This is the year that a large portion of SEO professionals moved to the position that whatever Google officially says... probably isn't the full truth. While the video below definitely covers the arc of Google using data harvesting as an advantage, the delayed processing on the edge and Chrome behavior just isn’t being tracked by SEO folks. There are cybersecurity, OSINT, corporate investigation, crime syndication, law enforcement, and military groups who either use this data for themselves or against you. They’ve been doing this for years... Keep in mind, Google's "Don't be Evil" slogan was dropped around 2015... #pii #privacy #gdpr

Why I don’t believe in the theory suggesting that Google uses individual users' Chrome browsers to render web pages and then transfers that data back to their servers for indexing. - It would be extremely challenging for Google to hide such extensive data transfers. Tools like Fiddler or Wireshark make it easy for anyone to monitor network traffic. If Chrome were sending large amounts of rendering data back to Google, it would be quickly detected by developers and security experts worldwide. - Transferring rendered page data from millions of users would incur enormous data transfer costs for Google. Additionally, this process could introduce significant latency for users, degrading their browsing experience - The same URL can render differently based on numerous factors such as geographical location, device specifications, plugins, user settings, and so on. Google's crawlers typically operate from U.S.-based IP addresses. Relying on disparate Chrome instances worldwide would result in inconsistent indexing, which is counterproductive. - Using Chrome instances scattered globally for rendering would eventually become apparent. Such widespread activity would leave detectable patterns in network traffic, raising red flags among tech professionals and privacy advocates. Certainly not a smart moove that could be approved by google’s top management… - Rendering web pages on Google's own servers using headless Chromium is not only more cost-effective but also more reliable and consistent. And it ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards. - While Google does certainly utilize Chrome Visits for various applications, including enhancing discoverability, identify sitelinks, CWV or even for some quality scores to prioritize indexing, the idea that they offload rendering tasks to users' devices without consent doesn't align with their operational practices. There's plenty of evidence and confirmation that Google does indeed use browsing history, app installations, location data, order confirmations via Gmail, and many other things. And all this data is synchronized through Chrome Sync to create audiences… The lawsuit currently underway in the U.S. is starting to reveal all this more clearly, notably with the GAIA system that's also mentioned in the Contentwarehouse leak. There are many details in this document from the Google Ads vs. U.S. lawsuit: https://lnkd.in/e2B7qpJT - Leaked Contentwarehouse API contains numerous references to WebKit (and now Chromium), indicating that Google's rendering and indexing processes are (and was) based on these technologies within their own infrastructure—not on users' devices. The notion that Google is using individual Chrome browsers for page rendering and indexing doesn't hold water. Technical and practical considerations make this theory highly unlikely (not talking about ethical 😅).

Did you know? Google was originally called Backrub before it was renamed in 1997. The name "Backrub" was a reference to the system's ability to analyze the "back links" pointing to a website, which was a key factor in its search algorithm. However, the name was later changed to "Google," a play on the word "googol," which refers to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, reflecting the vast amount of information the search engine was intended to organize. 🌐https://lnkd.in/gTV4rt-D #EscapePlanMarketing #marketingrocketfuel #Google #Backrub #Trivia #DidYouKnow #FunFacts #TechHistory #SearchEngine #GoogleFacts #TechnologyTrivia #BrandHistory #TechTrivia
