🎉 Happy International Day of AIS - Aeronautical Information Services! 🌍✈️ Today, we celebrate the International Day of Aeronautical Information Services, a special day dedicated to recognizing the contributions of AIS personnel worldwide. AIS personnel plays a crucial role in collecting, managing, and sharing important aeronautical information, ensuring the safety and efficiency of air travel. On May 15th, we commemorate the adoption of the Standards and Recommended Practices for Aeronautical Information Services by the ICAO Council in 1953. This marked a significant milestone in the aviation industry, establishing a framework for the proper handling of aeronautical information. Aviation truly starts with AIS. These dedicated professionals work behind the scenes, tirelessly collecting, managing, and disseminating a wealth of crucial information to pilots, air traffic controllers, and other aviation stakeholders. Their role is vital in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of air navigation. This information is the backbone of safe and successful flights. It includes essential details on airports, runways, airways, and more, empowering pilots to make informed decisions, plan routes, and navigate various airspaces with confidence. Let's take this opportunity to appreciate and honor the dedication and hard work of the men and women in the Aeronautical Information Services everywhere. Their commitment to excellence plays a vital role in keeping us safe in the skies. ✈️ Aviation truly starts with the Aeronautical Information Services! ✈️ #InternationalAISDay #AviationStartsWithUs #IAmAIS #May15th #Annex15 #ThankYouAIS #IFAIMA #ICAO #OACI #AviationCommunity #FlightPlanning #FlightChart #AeronauticalInformationManagement #AIS #AIM #NavigationData #AirportOperations #AISDay #WorldAISDay #AviationHeroes #WeFlySafe

In October, aviation enthusiasts around the world commemorate a landmark in aviation history—the first flight of the Concorde. On October 1st, 1969, the Concorde took to the skies for the very first time from Toulouse, France, marking the beginning of the supersonic jet era. The Concorde, a product of a joint effort between British and French aerospace engineers, was not just an aircraft but a symbol of technological prowess and international cooperation. With its sleek, delta-wing design and the ability to cruise at twice the speed of sound, the Concorde offered passengers an unprecedented experience, drastically reducing transatlantic flight time. Despite its eventual retirement in 2003, the legacy of the Concorde continues to inspire advancements in aviation technology. This milestone in aviation history remains a testament to human ingenuity and the relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries. #DYKT? By improving air transport for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility, we can enhance their air travel experience. For Dr. Shelley Roberts, Senior Research Officer at our Aerospace Research Centre, taking part in these valuable discussions is essential to contributing to safe and efficient transportation for all. In early December, Dr. Roberts was selected as the official Canadian delegate to participate in the Symposium on Accessibility in International Civil Aviation, hosted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Civil Aviation Organization and ACI World - Airports Council International. She joined other experts to discuss the challenges and efforts of governments, industry and other stakeholders, and how to enhance international collaboration for effective accessibility solutions. #NRCAero

What are the operational benefits of trajectory-based operations (TBO) ? The Global TBO Symposium jointly hosted by EUROCONTROL, the European Commission, EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking and SESAR Deployment Manager delivers answers. TBO is the cornerstone of the ICAO vision to enable greener and more predictable air travel while optimising the capacity of our skies in a safe manner. The introductory session of our TBO Symposium showcased the expected operational benefits of TBO and highlighted the opportunities that TBO will offer for operations in the future. Our Head of Airspace and Capacity Division Razvan Bucuroiu shared key insights into how TBO will improve productivity by halving the average working time to process 100 flights and enabling a 100% sector capacity increase by 2040. More insights were provided by Giancarlo Buono , MSc FRAeS Buono, Director Safety and Flight Operations for Europe, IATA, HUGUES DE BECO, Head of ATM Programme, Airbus and from Shoji Yoshida, Director General, Japan Air Navigation Service (JANS).
