🔩 Rotational Stiffness of Column Base Plate Connections 🤔 While some column base plate connections are often considered pinned, in reality, they possess significant rotational stiffness. This can attract large moment demands and potentially lead to the yielding of the column base. 💻 At #DlubalSoftware, our #RFEM program provides tools to determine the initial rotational stiffness for any column base plate connection and further design of the connection itself. In the presented portal frame example, two variants of anchor arrangements were examined. The initial stiffness of both variants was determined and subsequently incorporated into the global model. 📊 As seen from the global model results, the resulting bending moments are not negligible.
