💖 ICONIC 💖 My daughter had a play date yesterday, and in true 3 year old fashion, this is how she chose to dress for her playdate ... (please also note the addition of the leopard print bed socks! 😂 ) I just had to quickly snap a photo with my phone, before we set off. The reason I wanted to share this photo, is not just because my daughter looks damn cute (even though she does!), it's because she represents something more ... She is, simply put ICONIC! And that's exactly what I want to talk about ... ICONIC! I deliberately called my signature brand photoshoot offer "ICONIC", because the women I work with, are not just your average business woman. The women I work with, represent something. They stand for something. They create a movement. The women I work with have one crucial trait in common: they are who they've decided to be. And by owning that, and showing up completely, they become ICONIC. But doing this has required a lot of courage, a lot of identity shifts and a lot of action. Because somewhere along the line, growing up, we've forgotten how to simply step into who we've decided we want to be! Because, trust me, it took my daughter 3 seconds to decide she was going to be a princess yesterday, and there were no second thoughts about it!!! How do you feel about beauty norms? For two years, I’ve been photographing women over 40 of all backgrounds, shapes and sizes, in my Over 40 Campaign. I also interviewed them on how they felt about being perceived by other generations. The answers I got were unanimous: the outdated beauty standards have plagued society for far too long. The cookie-cutter expectations of what's considered beautiful have left countless people feeling inadequate and uncomfortable in their own skin. The tide is shifting, albeit ever so slowly, to accept that beauty does not exist in any specific shape or size. As a photographer, I see my mission to help the change, challenging the outdated norms and redefining beauty through my lens. Every line, every scar, and every gray hair are the trophies you collected on your journey to becoming the best version of yourself. The age might be just a number, but not everyone is lucky enough to count through. Making it this far is worth celebrating! How do you get your portraits done? That was the question I had during a portrait session last week. And, to be honest, it made it me wonder just how long ago it was that I did my last photos. Checking my last profile shot...my hair was still growing out from when it was super short. So a while ago, then. That's the thing when you change your look, you ought to be keeping up with your profile images too. The simple answer for me, is that I do selfies with my professional kit - but with a monitor attached to the camera so that I can check for focus (my pro camera has a flip out screen, but not one that I can see for selfies). I also have a collapsible backdrop for consistency. And I have a bit of a strategy that I've developed over time to get the best looks for me. I can teach you a strategy too, if you're not keen on having your photograph taken. Just drop me a message and I'll let you in on a few secrets. ;)
