We’re excited to share a walkthrough video of Maarten Baas’ first-ever solo exhibition in Amsterdam, 'Crescendo!' Known for blurring the lines between art and design, Baas transforms musical instruments into bold, thought-provoking sculptures. From suspended pianos to an orchestra of abstract forms, 'Crescendo!' explores the balance between ambition and reality in a way only he can (in addition to a 20-year retrospective of Baas' impressive work!). In the realm of art and creativity, the unexpected often unfolds, bringing together seemingly disparate elements into a harmonious whole. Such was the case when composer Erik Satie and sculptor Constantin Brancusi crossed paths in Paris nearly a century ago. Just as colors on a palette blend to form a masterpiece, Satie and Brancusi’s contrasting personalities fused into a unique bond... Check out this research study, conducted by Anna Lawaetz examining how 10 different performing arts artists create archives, and how new strategies for collecting need to be established to ensure that the cultural heritage is preserved. I felt very honored to be invited into this study and I find it wonderful with an increased focus on preservation of our ephemeral performing arts - from the artists perspective. Read the full rapport in the link. Worth a read!!!

This short documentary looks at the relationship between The Druids and the megalithic stone builders of Stonehenge. I was lucky enough to work with a CGI film student to create some of the scenes in the documentary. I'm not a big fan of CGI in film, but sometimes, to capture the essence of something, you have to adapt to change. I've used some old stock footage of a gathering at Stonehenge and the teaching material from the Order of the Bards, Ovate and Druids'. The narration was by Siusaidh Nicneill. Music by on Björk, and Antonymes. The documentary its self. Archaeologists and prehistorians had initially linked the Druids with the construction and use of Stonehenge. However, improved dating for monuments in the twentieth century seemed to disprove this connection. The argument was that the Druids could not have been contemporaries of megalithic monuments if stone circles had been no longer built in Britain after 1400 BCE and the Celts had not arrived until 500 BCE. But with the new perspective, the Druids are once again seen as the priests and the stone circles, a view reinforced by the growing recognition of the role of ritual astronomy in the construction of these first half of the priestesses of monuments. Now, academic opinion is divided. Some experts emphasise the lack of continuity between religious structures and practices in the second and first millennia BCE. Others, however, point to the new sense of continuity in the genetics and culture of the British, with the rejection of the idea of a Celtic 'invasion'. This second school of thought makes it possible again to see the Druids as the priests and priestesses of the stone circles, a tendency reinforced by the increasing recognition of the importance of ritual astronomy in the construction of these monuments. As John Michell put it in A Little History of Astro-Archaeology: 'suddenly science restored the Druids to their old temple, Stonehenge, wiser and more venerable than before.' https://lnkd.in/gmGJsYZ2

Qigor: The biggest healing that this healing art exhibition has brought me is being able to share the sad man series of works with everyone. On the surface, sad man may just be a trendy toy. But I hope the audience can be touched by the concept of "heart" through the design core of this series. https://lnkd.in/dKH-QuXr

🎉2024 marks 40 years since the launch of the European Union first funding programme dedicated to science, research and innovation. In celebration of 40 years of research the EU published a booklet that presents 40 symbolic stories to illustrate the breadth of R&I made possible through EU R&I funding. We're very proud that the TRACTION #Horizon2020 research project of the Distributed & Interactive Systems Group (DIS) | Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) group with Pablo César as Technical Coordinator, was selected as one of the 40 stories that exemplify innovative EU funded research. In this project, researchers were testing how opera can make our societies more inclusive. To that end, the DIS group developed the Co-Creation Space (CCS), a web-based application through which people can share thoughts and communicate through media, guided by a facilitator in an effort to create a piece of art. It was one of the tools used for the development of La Gata Perduda (The Lost Cat), a novel opera co-created by the Liceu opera house in Barcelona and residents from the vibrant Raval neighborhood. The Opera has won a Max Award (“Los Premios Max de las Artes Escénicas”). These awards are comparable to the Tony Award (USA), Laurence Olivier Award (UK), or Molière Award (France). In the article, the inclusive character of the TRACTION project was mentioned: by involving people at risk of social exclusion -like young offenders, migrants and the rural poor- in the co creation process of an opera together with professional artists, they can tell stories that are important to them. Read more about the TRACTION project here: https://lnkd.in/e8pgXB-E #EU40YearsRI #CoCreation #Opera #Inclusivity
