My answer to the second question in the slide below actually sparked a great convo earlier with my colleague Tamar Keenan about how outdated the term "career ladder" is. It makes careers seem so rigid and pre-determined. We don't have to always climb up to progress. It leaves unrealistic expectations and narrows what growth actually means. What should we be saying instead of "career ladder"? Perhaps, we should be calling it "career maps" instead, since there are many different career destinations to consider and pathways to reaching them that are equally as satisfying. This also includes taking the rocket ship up to space (senior management/c-level), which is certainly a destination, but not the only way to grow. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. Would love to hear your thoughts!

I am honored to share that the Neill-Cochran House Museum is the recipient of two awards, the Stewardship Award and the Preservation Award for Restoration, for Reckoning with the Past, the restoration of Austin's last intact slave dwelling, as a part of Preservation Austin's 2024 Preservation Merit Awards! This project was made possible by the tireless efforts of Dr. Rowena Dasch of the Neill-Cochran House Museum, Dr. Tara Dudley from the University of Texas, and my Fermata team (including Maja Smith of MajaDesign and iZone). This award is a testament to the dedication and commitment of this amazing group of professionals of which I was honored to be a participant. Ten years ago today, I joined 9/11 family members, rescue and recovery workers, and survivors, to dedicate the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Today it stands as a permanent reminder of those killed, and the service, bravery, and compassion of those who stood together in unity during those dark hours. The 9/11 Memorial Museum preserves an essential moment in our history for future generations, ensuring that we will never forget. Join me in visiting the #911Museum, which will now offer free admission to New Yorkers on the first Monday of each month beginning June 3.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has hired Paul Pineau, general counsel of Johns Hopkins University for the past decade, as general counsel and secretary. The Met, the largest art museum in the United States and the fourth-largest in the world, announced the appointment Thursday. Pineau will succeed Sharon Cott, who is retiring after 37 years with the nonprofit. The museum said it chose Pineau after an extensive national search. In a statement, CEO Max Hollein said, "He brings exemplary legal skills and expertise, with demonstrated success in providing strategic leadership and counsel amid complex challenges. His thoughtful approach will be an invaluable asset to the museum, and we are confident that Paul will be a strong partner in advancing the museum’s mission and institutional goals." Historically underserved communities frequently have reported lower arts participation rates than other groups. To address this disparity and understand the dynamics, the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with South Arts and in collaboration with the five other U.S. Regional Arts Organizations (RAOs), launched ArtsHERE, a new grant to expand access to arts participation across the nation through capacity-building projects and peer-learning to further support organizational goals.
