Current Events in the U.S. and the FIFA World Cup 2026™️: A PESTEL Analysis (just my .02 cents) 🙋🏽♀️
🎉 Congratulations to all the small business owners who’ve followed me over the past 3 years and embraced the opportunities of the FIFA World Cup 2026™️. Everyone did not understand the assignment. 🤷🏽♀️
This global event, celebrated for its unifying power, is an unparalleled cultural and economic moment for the U.S. As FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in 2023, this World Cup is about “togetherness and unity,” captured in the #WeAre26 campaign promoting inclusion and diversity.
⁉️ But how will current U.S. events impact this historic moment?❓
I did a short and pointed PESTEL analysis—examining Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, and Legal factors—provides insight into the challenges and opportunities ahead.
🇺🇸 Political
U.S. political polarization and the 2024 elections may influence public policies on immigration, infrastructure, and public funding for the event. Host cities’ local governments will be pivotal in ensuring smooth execution and a welcoming atmosphere for global fans.
📊 Economic
Inflation and economic uncertainty pose challenges, yet the World Cup offers significant growth opportunities, including increased tourism, job creation, and revenue for local businesses. Equitable distribution of these benefits will be key, especially for small businesses and underserved areas.
🌎 Social
Issues of racial equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to public discourse. The World Cup’s #WeAre26 campaign amplifies these values, but societal tensions could affect perceptions of the event. For the U.S., this is an opportunity to show unity and hospitality on the world stage.
📡 Technological
Cutting-edge technology will enhance the fan experience, from advanced stadiums to AI-driven crowd management. Social media and streaming platforms will also expand global engagement, ensuring the World Cup reaches more fans than ever.
⚡️ Environmental
FIFA’s sustainability goals will require the U.S. to address transportation emissions, energy consumption, and waste. Green initiatives like public transit, renewable energy, and eco-friendly infrastructure will be critical in meeting these commitments.
⚖️ Legal
Streamlined visa policies and fair labor practices are essential for event success. Ensuring smooth international travel for players, staff, and fans, alongside ethical treatment of workers, will reflect the World Cup’s values of unity and respect.
🏟️ Moving Forward
The FIFA World Cup 2026™️is a chance for the U.S. to showcase its resilience, creativity, and inclusivity. For small businesses, it’s time to innovate, collaborate, and capitalize on this global stage. It’s not too late. Let’s rise to the occasion.

It is hard to understate the magnitude of the World Cup and it is critical that you determine your brand strategy now, even if it's to do nothing. It's almost a gaurantee that a key stakeholder will ask what your brand is doing around the World Cup (and likely for tickets) and you'll want to to be able to explain the strategy and due dilligence behind it.
Stay tuned for more on our World Cup brand strategy webinar!
"What many brands don’t realize is that there are alternative ways to reach soccer fans (i.e., one of the youngest, largest and fastest growing segments in the world) during the World Cup without breaking the bank, and working strategically to find the right fit, frequency, and programming can bring your brand to the forefront in a MUCH more cost-effective manner. So, put on those cleats and prepare to activate around the biggest sporting event the U.S. may EVER experience."
Is your brand looking to connect with one of the youngest, largest and fastest growing fanbases in the world right now?

The quarter final match between France and Portugal will be a riveting one, after France as the host in 2016, was defeated by a Portugal squad not as good as the present Portugal squad.
The latter triumphed despite being underdogs. France, will face a tougher Portugal this time around, making for a quarter-final filled with so much poise. France arguably got their best redemption by winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup after two years of losing in the finals of a continental championship they hosted.
That being said, revenge for the 2016 loss will still definitely be in the offing.
It is also worthwhile to note the following;
1. France are yet to score from open play in the tournament, with their only goals coming from a penalty by Kylian Mbappe and two goals from the opposing team.
2. Portugal do have a record of ups and downs in the tournament, with two wins, a loss to Georgia, and a win over Slovenia via penalty shootouts.
You all should brace yourselves for a pulsating encounter!

I woke up yesterday to the incredible news that the 10th edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup™ will be hosted in Brazil. As a Brazilian sports professional and fan, this news is not only exciting but also deeply significant.
Ever since I first considered the possibility of Brazil hosting the WWC, I've been reflecting on the real benefits this event can bring to our country. Here are some key insights and the real impact that extends beyond the initial excitement:
💡 Women in the Spotlight: Hosting the WWC puts women at the center of the conversation, building a genuine fan base and creating lasting impact. This event gives Brazil the credibility to lead in women's sports.
🇧🇷 First South American Host: As the first South American country to host the WWC, Brazil shines a spotlight on a region often marginalized in the football world (CONMEBOL represents just 3% of professional female clubs globally). This milestone equally demonstrates the sport is ready to support the region's growth and that the region is ready to embrace the event.
🌐 Showcasing All Regions: With 10 stadiums across 10 different states, this World Cup is an opportunity to highlight the diversity of Brazil and reactivate stadiums built for the 2014 WC.
🔥 Grassroots Impact: The growth of girls and women playing football increased by 24% worldwide from the 2019 WWC in France to the 2023 WWC in Australia, with Brazil seeing one of the largest growths. This event will further boost female participation in sports.
✈ Tourism and Economic Benefits: Hosting a World Cup brings substantial economic benefits. For instance, Australia saw an average of 55,000 international visitors and about $385 million in economic gains. It's not just about the games—it's about culture, food, hospitality, mobility, and more.
Of course, there are many more aspects to consider. It takes professionalism and intention to maximize the benefits of this magical event. We need to understand the gaps, address the demands of international visitors, and consider the impacts on our communities.
Is there something else you would add?
Let's make the most of this incredible opportunity and showcase the best of Brazil to the world!
