#Decarbonization is key for the competitiveness of European industry, as evidenced by the report produced by Mario Draghi and published by the European Commission. The priorities to ensure Europe’s economic competitiveness through a sustainable development are: 1. Investing in strategic sectors: Unlike what happened with the digital and AI revolutions, Europe is currently in a privileged position to lead innovation in clean tech, carbon capture and the circular economy. 2. Reducing energy costs: Decarbonizing through renewable energy sources, such as solar, will help lower energy prices, which are currently much higher than in the U.S. 3. Promoting investment: Companies leading decarbonization efforts should have access to capital dedicated to innovation in clean tech and energy efficiency. This support is particularly relevant in "hard-to-abate" sectors, where challenges are greater, and solutions more complex. 4. Increasing efficiency: Avoid compromising the competitiveness of European companies by not only speeding up the licensing and implementation of new technologies but also creating compliance mechanisms that facilitate adoption across all businesses. 5. Reducing international dependence: Increasing renewable energy production and promoting resource efficiency alongside circularity are key to reduce external dependence on resources that are not abundant in European territory. #cleantech #carboncapture #competitiveness #circularity

Innovation Fundin IF24Battery-akkuhaku julkistettiin tänään: "Today, in the first week of its new mandate, the Commission is stepping up its efforts to boost net-zero technologies that are key to ensure the competitiveness of European industry while meeting agreed climate goals. It is launching two new calls for proposals with a budget of €3.4 billion to accelerate the deployment of innovative decarbonisation technologies in Europe, including electric vehicles batteries. For the first time, a €1 billion call for electric vehicle battery cell manufacturing (IF24 Battery) will support projects that can produce innovative electric vehicles battery cells or deploy innovative manufacturing techniques, processes and technologies. Today's call is only one measure in a broader approach to mobilise investment in an area that is essential for Europe's success in the clean energy transition and its competitiveness. It supports companies in targeting investments in Europe with new technologies where advances are still being made. Multiple instruments are needed to overcome some of the economic barriers that the battery value chain in Europe, including its gigafactories, is currently facing. The Commission will continue to deploy instruments at hand and engage in new avenues, including in the short term, for addressing barriers to large-scale industrial scale up." #akkuteollisuus #InnovationFund #IF24Battery #EU #rahoituspaketti https://lnkd.in/ejS7z2M9

Thanks for the interesting discussion on the role of Research, Technology & Innovation for the Green Transition at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology! R&I is crucial to enable the green transition and to boost Europe’s long-term competitiveness. At least 35% of #HorizonEU EUR 95.5 billion budget is devoted to climate action. This includes billions in funding via Horizon Europe Partnerships with Member States, industry and academia in domains that are central to sustainable competitiveness. Some examples include: ➡ The Clean Energy Transition Partnership with a budget of EUR 790 million to work on renewable energy technology development, demonstration and integration. ➡ The Driving Urban Transitions Partnership, which explores how cities can become more sustainable, inclusive and liveable, with at least EUR 450 million in funding. ➡ The Batteries Partnership, with an EU contribution of EUR 925 million, works on recycling and circularity, and the development of batteries based on locally-available materials. These Partnerships, and others like them in areas such as aviation, waterborne, and road transport, are complemented by private investment of at least the same value as the EU contribution. Did you know that EIT InnoEnergy directly responds to EU policy priorities? Watch Diego Pavia, CEO of EIT InnoEnergy, explain how EIT InnoEnergy is driving Europe's decarbonisation by leading industrial value chains in battery storage, green hydrogen, and solar photovoltaics. ⚡️🔋🌱 These initiatives are crucial in advancing the European Commission’s updated Industrial Strategy, which paves the way for a more sustainable, digital, competitive, and resilient European industry. EIT signed memorandum of cooperation with its three knowledge and innovation communities - EIT Climate-KIC, EIT Digital and EIT InnoEnergy. The MoC establishes that each KIC will continue to offer activities aligned with the EIT model (education, innovation and business creation) and remain part of the #EITCommunity as financially sustainable ecosystems, as their fifteen-year partnership agreements expire in 2025. The industrial value chain on energy sector plays a pivotal role in decarbonizing Europe and EIT InnoEnergy was the front runner back in 2018. Glad to have had a small contribution to regional start-up ecosystem back in the day while being involved in EIT InnoEnergy Romania Hub. As we navigate the challenges of energy transition, collaboration and innovation have become more critical than ever. The way forward is to embrace open innovation and strategic partnerships developing ecosystems where ideas, resources, and expertise flow freely. #DemocratizeEnergy #IndustrialOpenInnovation #NewBusinessModels
