Public Holidays: As we approach the Christmas and New Year period, it is crucial to understand the relevant pay and award provisions which may apply to your business. We remind you, Christmas Eve (from 6pm to midnight), Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day are considered public holidays in many areas. As an employer, it is important to ensure your employees are receiving the correct entitlements for these days. You can do this by referring to the pay guide for the corresponding modern award. Additionally, we understand that employees may be required to work additional hours or work outside of their ordinary hours of work during this period. With that being said, employers should monitor this, as penalty rates may apply. For more information or further assistance, contact the team at HR Business Assist! Very bad lighting but I love this London Underground poster by British Airways Holidays The 2024 annual leave report by Access PeopleHR highlights that the amount of annual leave taken between 2022-23 has droped by over 7.5% and 12% since 2020. 🤷🏻♀️So what are the reasons for this decline? Whether its a result of business expectations, shortage of staff,, blurred lines or fear of failing, these are all disguise words for CULTURE, CULTURE, CULTURE. As business leaders it’s important to actively encourage annual leave if you want to succeed in creating a culture of engagement, productivity and happiness. In addition to this, its really important to lead by example, demonstrating to your teams that the world keeps turning without you. So tell me, do you….. A) take all of your entitlement?. You’ve earnt it. B) take your holiday but you’re always “on duty”? C) lose some of your entitlement?

Christmas and New Year’s Day … are these public holidays in the Netherlands? And does everyone have a day off on those days? Short answers: ✅ YES and ❌ NO. Christmas (25 & 26 December in the Netherlands!!) and New Year’s Day are public holidays. However, there is no law that says employees must be given a day off work on certain public holidays. No one has a legal right to a day off on a public holiday. Check your collective labour agreement or employment contract as they may include info that tells otherwise! #workinthenetherlands #knowyourrights #internationalcareer Photo by Miguel Acosta -------------------------------------------- 👋🏻 My name is Sandrine de Goede ⚡️Teaching highly skilled internationals how to find and get work in the Netherlands ⚡️Supporting employers in the Netherlands to find, attract and keep (inter)national talent Did you like this post? 🔔 Ring my bell (see my profile, top right hand corner) 👉🏻 Follow me and my company #OpenDutchDoors 🔝 Connect with me

[commenting on a post by Julia Bunting] Culture - it's critical to get this right and to not kid ourselves as business leaders that all is well because nobody said it was not. My sense is this is very much a case of talk is cheap. As a business leader, it is critial to set the tone for how we wish to see the wider team behave, and this includes taking holiday and being on holiday not holiwork (and a ton of other jugular stuff too) - leaving a well understood delegation of authority etc. I have been fortunate to work with some outstanding business leaders and there are many things that were imparted that have stayed with me including this "Always remember that your people will do as you do" and so I have always been aware that I should set the tone well. One of the things we did in my teams in the past was to agree - yes agree, a TEAM CHARTER - some very simple (documented) behavioural commitments to each other, the business and our customers - setting out what we were about. This was very effective because it was about us setting standards for ourselves. Standards that we had discussed and agreed, as the minimum acceptable. Taking holidays, and leaving a DOA is part of this for me

That's what we're saying party cats - your company doesn't have to spend your party allowance strictly during Christmas. 🌴 Fancy a summer BBQ party during your quieter seasons? Or an Autumn get-together? Companies can use their party allowances on employees at ANY time of the year. It doesn't need to be season-specific either (although it does need to be a regular annual event). It's also possible to split the allowance per employee across two or more events in the year - it just means the total amount gets split. For example, if you chose to split £150/per employee across a BBQ party and Christmas party, there would be an allowance of £75/per employee at each party (it doesn't need to be a 50/50 split either). So, take your party pick - how will you spend your party allowance? Got more questions? Check out our party allowance blog in the comments for more info ⬇ #partyallowances #party #christmasparty #staffparty #company #event #benefits #taxallowances #taxbenefits #taxadviser #edinburgh #staff #employees #employer #companyperks

If you are just starting a job in Austria, it might seem strange to be thinking of your holidays - but with nicer weather coming up, here are your rights. ☀️✈️ In Austria, employees typically earn their vacation days gradually throughout the year. According to Austrian labor law, workers are entitled to 5 weeks of paid leave per year worked. The work year begins on the day you enter the company, and during your first 6 months, your vacation entitlement increases with your length of service. You can request them after 2 weeks of work. But, be careful: you can't take all 5 weeks right away. After 2 weeks, you'll be entitled to 1 working day of vacation. Remember to check your specific employment agreement and enjoy your time off when it comes. #AustriaJobs #HolidayRights #TimeOff #LabourLaw

Let's cut to the chase on #StatutoryHolidays across #Canada. For many businesses, keeping track of these paid days off can be a headache. But don't worry, we've got you covered with a no-nonsense breakdown. The #basics? There are 5 nationwide statutory holidays observed in every province and territory: New Year's Day Good Friday Canada Day Labour Day Christmas Day Simple enough, right? But wait, there's more. The federal government also recognizes 6 additional paid holidays for its employees: Easter Monday Victoria Day National Indigenous Peoples Day Thanksgiving Remembrance Day Boxing Day Now here's where it gets a bit tricky. On top of the federal holidays, each province and territory tacks on its own statutory holidays. For example, Quebec celebrates St. Jean Baptiste Day on June 24th. When you add it all up, the total number of paid statutory holidays ranges from 6 to 10 per year, depending on where your business operates. Feeling confused about which holidays apply and how to calculate statutory pay? We get it. That's why we're breaking it down for the western provinces: #BritishColumbia #Alberta #Saskatchewan #Manitoba #Ontario If you need clarity on statutory holidays and pay rules for your region, just say the word. Our team specializes in making this stuff crystal clear for businesses like yours. No beating around the bush. Just straightforward statutory holiday guidance to keep your operations running smoothly. #StatHolidayBreakdown #StraightTalkForBusiness #HRBasicsForSMBs #SuperHR

Public holidays and days off, this is what you need to know ⤵ The original Saint Nick, Sinterklaas 🎁, is back in town. This means the holiday season has started! But what does a public holiday in the Netherlands mean for you? Employees are not legally entitled to a day off when it is a particular public holiday. Within your company, the collective labour agreement (cao) or employment contract states which public holidays grant a day off. The cao or contract should also state: - Whether the employee will be paid on a public holiday or not. - Whether you have to pay your employee an allowance if they work on a public holiday. - Which holidays are mandatory days off, which do not deduct from the employee’s holiday entitlement. #Sinterklaas #Christmas #publicholiday #entrepreneurship

Vacation Pay Not Owing over Notice Period "...to award the plaintiff damages for vacation pay, on top of an award of full salary for the period of notice to which he was entitled (which necessarily includes payment of his salary for any vacation he may have taken had he worked during that notice period) is to provide double indemnity, or put another way, to provide compensation for a loss that he has not suffered." https://ow.ly/NM0P50RhnAJ Sometimes getting to “DONE” is as simple as coffee & conversation.
