This morning, Russia launched an intensive missile attack on oblasts across Ukraine, hitting the Okhmatdyt Children’s hospital in Kyiv—the largest children’s hospital in Ukraine. After a series of loud explosions, Ukraine’s capital city was overwhelmed in black smoke. At least 31 people have been killed so far, with over 137 injured in a rare daytime attack.    The Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital housed some of the most critically ill patients in Ukraine. The massive missile strikes damaged most of the hospital, causing patients, parents, and staff to flee, leaving behind the unthinkable—many still trapped beneath the smoking rubble. Medical staff, police, and volunteers are still digging through the rubble, searching for people in critical need.    Once again, Russian forces unlawfully targeted civilian infrastructure. There have been over 2,000 documented attacks of Ukrainian healthcare infrastructure in the two and half years of war. The front-lines are everywhere, and the importance of Front-Line Emergency Medicine (FLEM) is clear. Our mission in Ukraine remains strong – to train civilians in life saving first-aid skills. With Russia’s repeated, targeted attacks on civilians in Kyiv and other oblasts, the need for FLEM is more critical than ever. We remain dedicated to providing critical medical training and supplies throughout Ukraine until they secure victory.

🦠 The Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to the emergence of bacteria that are strongly resistant to multiple antibiotics. 🦠 Just like Mr Putin, we know that these superbugs do not respect national borders. Will the Prime Minister consider supporting the Ukrainian war effort by providing rapid diagnostic tests which can be used in the field and in civilian hospitals? This would help diagnose and treat these resistant infections more quickly, but would also provide valuable surveillance data to help global public health and protect our NHS from these dangerous bacteria? 🧫 #publichealth #AMR #Ukraine

perhaps we (also) need to keep faith in humanity While firmly acting (more and more) for democracy and human rights in every country. These people are people too. They risk their lifes helping others and we can help by recognising and stop supporting mental health challenges in leaders in totalitarian systems all over the world. I believe we need to recognise the mental health tendencies in us too. This way we have better chances to improve, cooperate, help spread reliable information and act more and more together. The axes of "evil" (huge mental health issues for very powerful leaders) may be growing stronger ... We (still) have the time and power to help make our world safer and raise the average mental health for a better and better future.

I'd like to share this article, written by my colleagues Alejandro Pozo, Natasha Sax and Helen Richards, that shows how attacks on medical care and humanitarian workers have increased over the past eight years, contrary to what was hoped to be achieved by UN Security Council Resolution 2286 in 2016. During an armed conflict, medical facilites, medical transports and medical personnel are entitled to a specific level of protection, in view of their life-saving role. All parties to the conflict must not only refrain from attacking medical facilities, personnel and transports, but must take active measures to ensure that they can fulfil their life-saving function. However, in today's urban warfare, we increasingly see that medical care is among the casualties of war, with devastating effects on the civilian population.

Have the russian missile been launched to kill Ukrainian children? 🤬Today, in the morning of 08 July, russia once again launched a massive missile attack on the territory of Ukraine, damaging residential buildings, office premises and the largest children's multidisciplinary hospital in Ukraine and Eastern Europe - OKHMATDYT located in Kyiv. More than 300,000 patients aged from birth to 18 are treated at OKHMATDYT hospital annually. The main areas of expertise include diagnostics of a wide range of pathologies, treatment of cancer, and surgical interventions The media and authorities are already reporting on the injured, including little patients. The number of victims is growing😔 These are little children who are fighting for their lives every day in OKHMATDYT. How on Earth they could be a threat to the russians? How on Earth hundreds of other Ukrainian children, who were ruthlessly killed or injured by russian murderers, could be a threat to russia? RUSSIA IS A TERRORIST STATE! Yestarday, ruZZia launched a heartless rocket attack on the very symbol of innocence and healing: the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital. This sanctuary for the most vulnerable became a scene of chaos and heartbreak. In an instant, the sound of children's laughter and the gentle hum of medical machines were replaced by explosions and cries for help. The hospital, a place where children bravely fought their battles against illness, became a battlefield itself. Rocket attack across multiple places across Ukraine left 37 precious lives lost and nearly 200 injured, an unspeakable tragedy that has broken the hearts of many! Amidst the smoke and debris, stories of incredible bravery and resilience emerged. Doctors, nurses, and volunteers, despite the danger, rushed to save the lives of the innocent. They became the embodiment of hope, refusing to let the darkness of this cruel act extinguish the light of their humanity. The attack on Okhmatdyt is a stark reminder of the cruel reality faced by the people of Ukraine every day. It's a call to action for the world to stand in solidarity with Ukraine. The sky, once a peaceful expanse, is now a constant threat, raining down destruction. The need for protection is urgent and undeniable. The European Union and the international community are implored to take decisive action. It's time to protect the Ukrainian sky, to intercept and shoot down the rockets that wreak havoc on innocent lives. By providing Ukraine with the necessary air defense systems, we can prevent further tragedies and save countless lives. For those who wish to help, there is a way to make a difference. It is almost a year since the conflict between Israel and Palestine escalated into a devastating onslaught of violence that brought the decades-long war back into the global spotlight. As hostilities and tragic loss of life spread in Lebanon and the West Bank - including East Jerusalem - the regional escalation underscores the urgent need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.    Israel’s military assault began last October, following the attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups. Almost 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals were killed, including at least 282 women and 36 children - the deadliest day in Israel’s history. More than 250 people, including 38 children, were taken hostage.    Oxfam has conducted analysis showing that more women and children have been killed in Gaza by the Israeli military over the past year than the equivalent period of any other conflict over the past two decades.  Despite huge obstacles, we have been responding with our partners to reach over one million people since October 2023. They have provided emergency food assistance, clean water and sanitation, first aid kits and services to support displaced people in informal camps, as well as urgent family health packages, hygiene kits and protection kits.  Thousands of blankets, pillows mattresses and sleeping mats have also been supplied to families forced to live in tents.
