Erewhon's private label products are priced higher than national brand items on shelf. How? The Erewhon brand has elevated beyond grocery to be a whole lifestyle (I live 1,550 miles from the nearest Erewhon, and I can feel that from here!). See also: the hero tile on their web home page is an Erewhon sweatshirt. It's cooler to open your fridge and have Erewohn stickers on DIY-looking jars than to have the craft, organic 'indie' brand that's sold next to those. Any other private label brand that you think could pull this off?

Erewhon does 1 THING that no other grocer (not even Whole Foods) has dared to do: While most grocery stores position their store brands as more affordable alternatives to name brands, Erewhon... Prices its private label items HIGHER?! If you go to a Safeway or Whole Foods, you would expect the Signature Select or 365 brand to be the cheapest option on the shelf before sales. But not Erewhon. Never Erewhon. At Erewhon, higher prices mean better quality. As a result, their private label brand is actually *more expensive* than name brands. They've created a brand in itself that is more powerful than the brand-name products that sit on their shelves. AND they have the data to recreate the products their customers are *actually* buying. It's genius. Is there any other brand that can / would do this?
