We're deeply grateful to the Arthur P. and Franklin W. Perdue Foundation (Perdue Farms) for their generous grant that will help us provide approximately 30,000 meals to neighbors facing food insecurity. Special thanks to Sara Norfolk, SHRM-SCP, whose sponsorship of our application made this possible. Together, we're making a real difference in the fight against food insecurity!

In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive. Today is #GivingTuesday, an annual day of giving that follows the consumer holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After snagging great deals on gifts or tech for yourself, take today to reflect on where you can financially give back this holiday season. I may be biased, but 412 Food Rescue is such a great option, since you're supporting hundreds of nonprofits with your dollars. As a food rescue, we partner with food retailers to pick up their surplus food (that's still fresh and safe to eat) and deliver it to local nonprofits serving the community – safe houses, schools, housing authorities, LGTBQIA+ programs, churches, etc. Taking off the burden of where someone's next meal is coming from means they can focus on other things like caregiving, job search, addiction recovery or their mental health. A cool byproduct is also that keeping this surplus food out of the landfill mitigates harmful greenhouse gases like methane from being released into the atmosphere. Your donation doesn't just deliver food, but also access, security, and sustainability. It's creating a better future for us all. Donate today 💚 https://lnkd.in/dAFNegqe

Victory! 🎉 In collaboration with Mercy For Animals, Los Angeles County just passed another game-changing policy that will spare countless animal lives while reducing the environmental and public health costs tied to its food purchases. The new policy tasks county government with incorporating strategies that prioritize plant-based food in all new and renewing foodservice contracts, including but not limited to: ✅ A requirement to serve at least one plant-based entree at county foodservice operations ✅ A requirement to offer plant-based alternatives to dairy products at county foodservice operations ✅ A recommendation that plant-based entrees, side items, snacks/desserts, and beverages be priced competitively with comparable options Additionally, the policy tasks the county with setting greenhouse gas emissions-reduction goals for its food purchasing and ensures transparency in the process. We couldn’t do this work without your support. Help us continue to make a difference for animals by donating today. ➡️ mercyforanimals.org/donate

As someone passionate about food security, I was alarmed when a national leader in food rescue said to me, “If we pay farmers, they will expect to be paid.” 🧐🤨😱 This statement highlights a critical issue in food sustainability ——->>>> the donation-based model of the charitable food system. That's why I am teaming up with a Pennsylvania farmer to educate her colleagues on food equity for the farmer. Our workshop session title: “Food Dignity: Get Paid to Fight Hunger." It's crucial that we recognize the value of farmers' hard work and compensate them appropriately. Only then can we ensure food security for all. #FoodDignity #Sustainability #Farmers #FoodSecurity #PayFarmers2FightHunger

🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!
