I am disgusted by this appointment. Nuñez will do nothing to enhance the reputation of what used to be a fine university. Seems that the only qualification needed to become president in Florida’s pseudo-academic institutions is to be a MAGAt in good standing. I used to be proud of being an FIU alumna. Not anymore.

We went from Modesto A. Maidique a professor of management with a Ph.D. Rosenberg a professor of political science with a Ph.D. Dr. Kenneth A. Jessell a professor of finance with a Ph.D. to Lt. Gov. Nuñez no experience teaching at the college level and no doctoral degree. FIU is an educational institution and should be led by people who are experienced and accomplished in the educational sector. I hope they find a candidate with at least similar education experience as previous presidents. There are a lot of talented professors at FIU I hope they are being considered over external candidates that are unfamiliar with education in Florida.

Organizations generally don't put decisions they're proud of below the break, with a non-descriptive link title.

I’ve contacted the school of social work, as a former alumni. I express great concern regarding this new decision as my field (social work) is about diversity, inclusion and social advocacy for all. I am truly disappointed in this decision and am ashamed. I hope my school does and continues to advocate for its students and their knowledge to be ready for field work and the day to day of a SW, which includes working wide a wide you different populations. I hope my school continues to place its students first.

It feels genuinely embarrassing to tell people I graduated from FIU. This is a low-point for the university.
