Food sector reform means government incentives at local, state and federal levels to ensure nutritious plant-based options are always available. This particularly applies to 2025 tourism in Australia. At a major regional festival recently with an international following, there was no plant based option on offer at a large venue. After considerable discussion and a mounting queue, steamed vegetables with fries were the best they could do. Image below. An opportunity missed to showcase imaginative and ideally local produce. #foodsecurity #alternativeproteins #tourismaustralia #beansishow #foodsystemreform #climatesolutions

For #WorldOceanDay 2024 (celebrated tomorrow, June 8th) a new multi-year action theme is being launched focused on transformative collaboration between policymakers and corporate leaders at the local, national, and international levels to create a healthy blue planet and ensure a more abundant future for all. Our increasing appetite for seafood is at odds with this goal. Global fish consumption is estimated to increase by nearly 80 percent by 2050, while current demand is already pushing many marine ecosystems to the breaking point. As The Good Food Institute India's Jaanvi Parekh outlines in a new op-ed, some coastal communities in India are already experiencing the impact firsthand: https://bit.ly/4c5gGyv The region’s aquaculture industry is booming in attempt to keep pace with demand, but these underwater farms depend on large amounts of antibiotics and contribute to ocean pollution and habitat destruction. Can we have our crab cake and eat it, too? Yes! Innovators in India and around the world are working to make alternative seafood from plants (especially seaweed and algae — more on this soon!), directly from cells, and using fermentation technology. Further investment from both the public and private sectors will be crucial to accelerating this burgeoning industry and ensuring that products are delicious, affordable, and widely available. The individuals, organizations, and policymakers focused on protecting and restoring our ocean ecosystems need alternative seafood to win! Learn more: https://bit.ly/3F6qNDI

🚲🏰 Denmark is a food & climate pioneer! Why? 🌱 Not only has Denmark paved the way with the world's first carbon tax on animal agriculture but they’ve got a full action plan to catalyze the transition toward a plant-based food system. There are 3 exciting pillars: 🐮 1. Carbon tax on agriculture (~€100 a cow starting in 2030). https://lnkd.in/gWu6ha_V 💸 2. $100m Plant Fund to help stimulate the plant-based food industry. https://lnkd.in/gHYkRkMw 📝 3. Action plan for plant-based foods: https://lnkd.in/gVAmQ6JW 🧀 It’s even more impressive when you realize that Denmark’s diet is heavily animal-based. They are a large pork and dairy exporter. If Denmark can help nudge folks towards plant-based diets, anywhere can. Here’s a great Bloomberg article on the topic: https://lnkd.in/gP6HEven #sustainability #climate #climatechange #emissions #ghg #greenhousegasemissions #foodsystems #animalagriculture #animalag #altprotein #alternativeprotein #plantbased #carbontax
