My path to venture was a backdoor. Not the kind that comes from a last name, a Stanford MBA, or a decade inside a big firm. (Go 🐻 's) Fiat Ventures was a different kind of backdoor—one built on hustle, execution, and a simple ask: The right to invest. In 2018, Alex Harris and I signed our first growth consulting client. They paid us $2,000/month, gave us some advisor equity, and—most importantly—agreed to give us the right to invest in their next round. We didn’t have a fund. We didn’t have deep pockets. But we did have a belief: The most valuable asset in venture capital isn’t capital—it’s access. That one request changed everything. Over the years, it turned into Fiat Ventures competitive advantage: - Fiat Growth became a pipeline for world-class founders. - We worked with 200+ startups, securing 100+ rights to invest. - Fiat Ventures closed a $25M first fund, built from our unique ability to identify and support breakout companies. This wasn’t the traditional VC path. But me, Alex Harris & Marcos Fernandez have never been interested in doing things the traditional way.
