🔊 Watch this video with sound on! 🎧 Hello everyone! Today, I've decided to share a short animation I created during my Motion Design class at university. The goal was to make a quick 30-second video about myself for my portfolio, offering a glimpse into my personality without the need for a lengthy read in the “About Me” section. My supportive friends and colleagues encouraged me to post this. I was hesitant at first. This project marks my first experience with Adobe After Effects, and I’m not a trained animation designer—it's my first video. Despite my reservations, here it is! I’m sharing this video because I believe it's important to challenge ourselves and embrace learning without fear. This video isn't about showcasing my animation skills; it's about my willingness to learn and grow. And even though the result is far from “perfect”, I'm proud of my effort and excited to continue improving. (Views my own) I’m proud of our entire team for Sheridan’s strong showing once again in the annual rankings. It reflects the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and leadership, and the strength of the diversity of backgrounds and talents in our students. But I will admit to having mixed feelings about the message that these rankings suggest, especially in this time of such challenge in the animation industry and how our students come to place value in them while also asking legitimate questions about their future in it. There can be a good/better/best implication that can run counter to the unique value that each individual school tries to bring to the table to respond to the challenge of both local and global conditions. Animation is a diverse field that has many opportunities for a young artist, and not all of them fit in the commercial animation industry necessarily. Any program that is thoughtful in its curriculum design and puts the needs of students first deserves recognition. Thankfully, the sense of collegiality among most of the animation schools around the world helps to stave any sense of competitiveness among us that may be implied by each school's movement in the rankings. But I worry a little that students looking for programs might place too much value in them, and come to assume a certain kind of experience based on where their chosen school sits in these. No program is one-size-fits all for the needs of all students, and it’s that diversity of approaches and offerings that ensure the field will remain dynamic and forward-looking. And we really need those diversity of approaches – and for schools to work collaboratively among ourselves and the industry – if the field is going to evolve out of its current state. 🎥 My First Ever Intro Animation in After Effects! 🎉 Stepping into the world of motion design was a daunting yet rewarding experience. When I first opened After Effects, the UI looked like a maze. But with persistence, I dove into the basics, and within just two days, I was able to replicate Magnet Media's viral Coca-Cola video intro through a tutorial. (btw it's just 10 seconds of the intro 😅) What made this journey smoother was my practice in Photoshop and a solid understanding of design principles, which played a huge role in shaping this animation. This is just the beginning of my After Effects journey, and I’m excited to keep learning and expanding my creative skills. Looking forward to combining motion design with my graphic design expertise!
