The session will start by describing occupational cohort studies, including methodologies, benefits, and limitations, and progress to discussing initial findings from an ongoing cohort evaluation of the association between mortality and beryllium exposure among the largest cohort of beryllium workers enumerated to date. Occupational groups potentially affected by beryllium exposure include civilian populations involved in processing beryllium, as well as end users of the products — primarily military populations maintaining the products in the context of national defense.
