When you start working with homeless people, beware of what it will do to your heart. Nothing that was important 2 months ago feels important anymore. My wants and needs and desires have changed. We have found that a lot of people have this same heart, and a lot of them do not. We had our video for tent city go viral, currently at 184k views. The comment section is vial. Not every comment, but man. It is pretty bad. When I stumbled across God's Mission Ministry on facebook, I thought, well I have extras this week from the market, we can just donate them there. Now, we make stuff specifically for them. Every Sunday. We don't just show up and feed them, we stay and get to know them. Our video is helping the mission so much that we have had 3 more missions reach out in hopes that we can do the same for them. We need a food trailer! We have no problem going out and inserting ourself amongst them, but we don't want to just take baked goods. We want to help make more possible. Our goal as two recovering addicts in this now, is to get these people the help they need and not just feed them. To get that help, you have to know what help they need. Sometimes, it is just someone to sit next to them and tell they are seen and loved. Put that spark back in their eyes. I don't know why I am posting this here. Maybe in hopes some stranger sees this and thinks, "hey, this girl has gumption. Maybe I can help her out". I honestly don't know. All I know is that when you leave tent city, you never truly leave it again after that first time. These people stick with you in your everyday struggles. The once important things are no longer important. It could be any one of us out there at anytime. Here is the video link for anyone who wants to see the vial things being said about these amazing HUMAN BEINGS. Not every one of them is an addict. Some just have had it harder than the rest of us. https://lnkd.in/g6SCzTfy

Check this out....and pleasssssssssssse don’t forget this is National Affordable Housing month…..as an Ambassador for PATH in support of homeless population, I am focused on sharing the facts about homelessness – “Most groups of color have higher rates of homelessness than their White counterparts—and, in some cases, far higher. Within the White group, 11 out of every 10,000 people experience homelessness. For Black people, that number is more than four times as large—48 out of every 10,000 people. Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islanders particularly stand out as having the highest rates, with 121 out of every 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. The racial and ethnic groups with the highest incidences of homelessness have extensive histories of experiencing oppression, including displacements from land and property and exclusions from housing opportunities. Effectively addressing homelessness will likely require invested partners to account for America’s history, and that history’s influence on current culture, policy, and practice.”…. I ask you to donate to our local nonprofit PATH, who is committed to offering support to the homeless population that face challenges of housing insecurity. Homelessness can and does impact everyone....….Here is the link to donate to PATH Giving Day on or before May 15th. Any and all donations are accepted, because together we can make a difference for the greater good of our community -- https://lnkd.in/gEHmtbkQ

Sometimes coincidences are just too extraordinary. This week, I was surprised by a beautifully wrapped Christmas gift by one of our Pledgers. Inside I found a copy of A Christmas Carol, and a note. It said that only on re-reading it as an adult, did they realise that it's not just a Gothic horror - but set out Dickens' philosophy of social responsibility, which is the idea that people are accountable to each other and have a duty to help one another, and that business has a particular role to play. “Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!” And then, yesterday Thought for the Day was the Rev Jayne Manfredi reflecting on Scrooge's questions - “Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?” in response to two gentlemen asking for a donation to help the poor during Christmas. She remembers her earlier career, teaching, and the young people, often boys, who start off on a path to exclusion and often prison. It's a staggering three minutes and I've linked to it below so you can listen too. Fair warning - I'm on my fourth listen, and I've cried every time. As Christmas nears and a break beckons - I'm tired, and I'm looking forward to a rest. But I'm also looking forward to driving this forward again in January. We're building a pipeline of investments that will help to improve the life chances of pupils who are excluded, in care, have come out the other side of care, who are at risk of homelessness, or already are. And we'll be doing that fuelled by investments from local government (more on that soon), from forward-thinking local businesses (ditto), and from institutional impact investors who are helping to make change happen. And by donations and pledges of future wealth from Cambridge's innovation community and beyond that inspired that lovely gift. There is so much work to do.

Birmingham Stallions Wide Receiver… Thank you! If you’re a messed up man, you’re going to contribute to a messed up family. If you’re a messed up family, you’re going to contribute to a messed up church, if you’re a messed up church, you’re going to contribute to a messed up community, If you’re a messed up community, you’re going to contribute to a messed up state, If you’re a messed up state, you’re going to contribute to a messed up country, And if you’re a messed up country, you’re going to contribute to a messed up world. The only way to have a better world made up of better countries composed of better states filled with better communities influenced by better churches and inhabited by better families is by becoming a better man. It starts with you. The path to a better world begins with you.
