Kate McCue's Blunder: When Social Media Communication Backfires Kate McCue, a renowned American captain and influencer with over a million followers, recently found herself at the center of a heated social media controversy over a video posted during her stop in Naples. In the video, McCue suggested to her followers to leave their jewelry on board the ship to avoid pickpockets, painting an alarming picture of safety in the Neapolitan city. Obviously she got many negative comments of the napolitan community which we know, is quite protective and concert about the beauty of the city. Lesson Learned? McCue apologized for the incident and removed the incriminating video. However, this episode serves as a warning to all those who use social media to reach a wide audience: it is crucial to pay attention to the power of words and the consequences that one's messages can have. Social Media Communication Means More Than Just Entertaining. It also means to be very careful about the use of communitation, which can turn back to you in a second like happened recently to the famous stylist influencer Chiara Ferragni. In addition to the safety blunder, McCue raised further eyebrows by adding corn to her pizza. An affront to Neapolitan culinary tradition that sparked the wrath of pizzaioli and pizza purists. Disaster!!! Halloween, by the Numbers by Michael Levine: www.BoundlessMediaUSA.com Last night, an estimated 72 million Americans, most of them ages 5 to 14, hit the pavement for trick-or-treating, including for the first time since 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, where heavy rains Wednesday pushed back the city's traditional Beggar's Night—a Halloween alternative designed to cut down on "hooliganism."   The age-old tradition of trick-or-treating (see history here) has become increasingly expensive in recent years, with Americans spending close to $12B annually on costumes, decorations, and candy. Each household spent an average of $51 on sweets this year, a jump in costs due to a nearly 50% rise in cocoa prices since February (see chart). Over half of Americans decorated their homes or lawns for the occasion, including roughly 30 million pumpkins and thousands of Home Depot's popular 12-foot skeletons, dubbed Skelly.   New Hampshire takes the crown for the state with the most Halloween spirit in 2024 as it hosts the highest number of haunted houses per capita in the US (for an 8.1 on the jack-o’-lantern scale).
