Energicity, along with Baylis Emerging Markets, is hosting our second annual Investing in Africa: A Climate Imperative event at New York Climate week September 25th. The purpose of this high-level event is to highlight and engage in the abundant opportunities for climate investment in Africa. Currently, Africa a continent with some of the most abundant natural and renewable resources on the planet, a vibrant population and significant potential for economic growth, gets ~4% of global climate investment. We're excited to have Power Africa's US-Africa Clean Tech Energy Network as a partner this year as well and several high level government officials, leading PE firms and policy makers. If you'll be in New York for Climate Week, it should be a great event. If you'd like to attend, you can DM me.

𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 🚀 I am excited to see that many of the new CMARN policy briefs highlight the potential and opportunities of locally-led action on climate mobility and show how national and international actors could support (and follow) local leadership. In our policy brief 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 Evan Easton-Calabria, Lionel Nzamba Nzamba and I argue that African intermediary cities are key for climate mobility action. We show how locally centered multi-stakeholder partnerships including local, national and international actors can strengthen policy responses to climate change and improve urban action on climate mobility. In the brief titled 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 Joseph Inyama, Lothar Smith 🟥, Jeroen Warner & Arnoud Lagendijk call for rethinking priorities and actions set out in African states’ climate mobility and adaptation policies. In particular, they make the case for a paradigm shift away from global trends and top-down adaptation frameworks toward local insights and perspectives. These and other policy briefs are now available in English and French on the website of the Climate Mobility Africa Research Network: https://lnkd.in/eVG9BJHJ A huge thank you to Tamara Wood and Sarah Koeltzow for their support in developing the briefs! Climate Mobility Africa Insights is a publication of the Climate Mobility Africa Research Network (CMARN), providing up-to-date analysis of key law and policy issues relating to climate mobility in Africa
