It's official: RIP Trek Emonda 🕯️ These past two weeks were just so full of new bikes. Wilier, Trek, Look, Pinarello all unveiled new platforms. And while I was tempted to showcase the new, green Wilier Verticale, I think that it's Trek that actually deserves the most attention at this stage. Because it's both the end and beginning of a new era. For years Trek fans and clients were asked to chose whether they prefer aerodynamics in the form of Madone or climbing prowess of the Emonda. As of yesterday that's no longer the case. In a move that's officially aimed at making a bike that can do it all – so an aero bike that is light and can climb or a climber that's aero – Trek has confirmed that they will discontinue the long-loved Emonda and make the Madone their only performance platform. But there's surely more to it than that. Earlier this year Trek has announced that they will be cutting the number of SKUs by 40%. So essentially, some models and versions need to go. The new Madone plays right into that. And I must say, it looks good. I like the smooth lines and light look of the bike. I've already gotten used to the notch (aka IsoFlow). And if up until now you were not able to decide if you want aero or climbing, now you don't have to. If you're interested in the technical details, there are plenty of them online. I particularly recommend the Escape Collective analysis of the new bike. But here are the most interesting points about the new Madone: 🚲 Trek is moving from a figure-based size chart (think 50, 54 etc.) to letters (S, M, L…) and they're reducing the number of sizes from 8 to 6. 🚲 Despite the pics, the bike is shipped with 40 mm of spacers under the cockpit, giving all of us the ability to ride this race-oriented machine. 🚲 Much like BMC, Trek started looking at their bike as a complete system, so special water bottles and printed carbon holders are part of the "aero gains" package that helps you go faster. The bottles and cages need to be purchased separately. 🚲 The bikes arrive with 28 mm tires but have clearance of up to 32 mm, which is cool. Will the move be successful for Trek? Time will tell. Certainly making a light-weight aero bike seems like a solid choice by Trek. Other brands have gone the same route, including Specialized with their Tarmac, or Pinarello with their Dogma. ❓❓What do you think? And do you like the new Madone?❓❓ 📷 Share a pic of your favourite bike! #cycling #trek #newbike #fridaybikepicday

"Embracing innovation and sustainability with our new karbike – the perfect blend of efficiency, eco-friendliness, and urban mobility. A "karbike" typically refers to a hybrid vehicle that combines elements of a car and a bike. While the term is not universally defined, it generally denotes a vehicle that offers the comfort and safety features of a car, such as an enclosed cabin, along with the pedaling mechanism of a bicycle. Karbikes are designed for urban transportation, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional cars. They can be powered solely by human effort, or have electric assistance to help with pedaling. This type of vehicle aims to reduce carbon emissions, ease traffic congestion, and promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging physical activity. #innovation #technology #engineering #civilengineering #mechanicalengineering #construction #engeharia #engenhariacivil

One of the (many) joys of working with World Bicycle Relief is that not only do I get to see how Buffalo Bicycles make such an impact on people's lives, but I get to ride one while I'm in the field :-) And now there's a new model: today marks the unveiling of the Buffalo Utility S2 – even more of the right bike for rural roads. The model received a Eurobike Award for its revolutionary 2-chain drivetrain, which has no sensitive external components like those on a rear derailleur that could be bent, damaged or contaminated. The 2-speed system offers a simple choice between high (for speed) and low (for climbing) gear. If a rider breaks one of the chains, they can keep riding with the other chain to their destination with minimal delay. I hope to ride one soon! Find out more at https://lnkd.in/dAe4ivcz.

Can Karbikes Help Quadbikes Go Mainstream? Urban mobility startup Karbikes has designed their "micro-city car," to address "various transportation needs in urban, peri-urban, and rural settings." The pedal assist hybrid has a top speed of 25 km/h, a width of 0.8m, can carry up to 150kg of cargo and is cycle path compliant. The vehicle, which their website calls the "fusion of a bicycle and the car," can be used for communting, deliveries and anything in between also has a fully encosed version. While Karbikes was founded in Strasbourg, France which "an extensive cylcling network," one could imagine it in cities and jurasdictions that are hostile to cyclists and protected bike lanes as transporations solutions, given that riders are more secure and visible with this design. Hopefully Karbikes can succeed and is part of the quadbike/quadracycle trend like Canyon Bicycles GmbH Future Mobility Concept. Also, the design cool which can only help. designboom Karbikes Gaëlle Richard Lucas Vançon Christopher Santerre #ev #quadbike #urbanmobility #concept #ebike #zeroemissions #commuting #france #design #futurist #trendforecasting https://lnkd.in/gWd8Z_9R
