🌍 Taking care of the Earth and those who cultivate it: at Cordier, we talk about it today, but we act all year round. #EarthDay Soil health in viticulture: unique collaboration on vine cover between InVivo Foundation, Bioline and Cordier by InVivo. Soil health in viticulture is one of the 4 themes of Cordier CSR strategy #Terra360, as it is a major priority on economic, societal and environmental levels. It plays a crucial role in improving grape productivity, regulating the use of inputs and ensuring wine quality. It is in this context that the InVivo Fondation, Cordier and Bioline teams have been working together on the theme of vine weed control. This project, which began in Languedoc-Roussillon with some 30 "Pioneer" winegrowers from partner cooperative wineries, aims to measure and improve soil vitality, mitigate climatic and environmental impacts, and promote positive economic and social consequences. Supported by the InVivo Foundation, this approach provides invaluable support for winegrowers, from soil analysis to enhancing the value of their heritage. It helps guarantee the health and yield of the vines, to produce a quality wine that respects the environment. On April 4, winegrowers came to visit the Bioline teams on their test platform, to talk about vine weed control using Semences de France mixtures. The aim was to demonstrate how this technique increases profitability, reduces costs, enhances production and contributes to the structural and biological improvement of soils. It also has a positive environmental and social impact, helping to protect biodiversity, store water and carbon, and combat climate change. bioline by InVivo FONDS DE DOTATION INVIVO FOUNDATION InVivo #tiphaineDutrieux Franck ESCALES Robert Eden Sylvain Chaussé Marion Dubosqueille Thomas Bégon Charlotte de Lattre Robin Salmon MARIE ANGELE BENNAVAIL

Mombarone [Piedmont] Vineyards added to Historical Register The Italian Ministry of Agriculture has officially recognized the historical and scenic value of the vineyards in the Canavese region, located on the left bank of the Dora Baltea River. These terraced vineyards, cultivated since medieval times, have been added to the National Register of Historical Rural Landscapes, a distinction that highlights their cultural and environmental significance. The recent announcement was welcomed by Bruno Mecca Cici, President of Coldiretti Torino, who described it as a crucial step in protecting and revitalizing the region's heroic viticulture. The register includes rural areas that have preserved their unique cultural and agricultural characteristics over centuries, becoming integral to the local landscape and heritage. In Canavese, the terraced vineyards exemplify human adaptation to the Alpine environment. The dry-stone walls supporting these terraces create a favorable microclimate for growing vines under challenging conditions by reflecting heat and stabilizing the terrain. The winemaking tradition in Canavese is deeply rooted in local history. The terraces, locally known as tupiun, are supported by stone pillars called pilun, a centuries-old farming technique passed down through generations. The Ministry's recognition underscores the need to protect these vineyards not only for their cultural value but also for their role in preventing soil erosion and landslides on the region's steep slopes. Maintaining these vineyards is considered heroic viticulture under Italian law, given the extreme conditions in which local farmers work. Despite their importance, these viticulturists face numerous challenges in sustaining their activity. Mecca Cici stressed that inclusion in the National Register must be accompanied by concrete policies to support mountain viticulture. Proposed measures include protecting vineyards from wild animals, building rural roads and transport systems to improve access to terraced plots, and providing incentives to acquire abandoned land. There is also a push to develop tourism and infrastructure that could leverage the unique Canavese landscape for economic benefit....www.liz-palmer.com #Vineyards #Mombarone #Piedmont #HistoricalLandscapes #Canavese #DoraBaltea #TerracedVineyards #MedievalCultivation #CulturalHeritage #EnvironmentalSignificance #HeroicViticulture #SoilErosionPrevention #TourismPromotion #NebbioloDiCarema #ErbaluceDiCaluso #winetourism #tourism #Canavese #italianwinelovers #winetourism2025 #italy #italianwines

Workshops on sustainable practices in the wine industry On average, 40-60% of a vineyard and winery’s carbon footprint is from packaging and distribution alone. Given the growing concern for climate change and sustainable practices in the wine industry, many wineries, particularly in France, Italy and Spain, are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and transition to more sustainable practices. During workshops in Provence and Catalonia in March and May 2024, we explored different sustainability solutions with participating wineries, estate owners, wholesalers and retailers. We include our key takeaways in the article below, along with compliments to Grup Peralada, Château Troplong Mondot and other wineries who together with other members of the IWCA - International Wineries for Climate Action are setting the example for sustainable practice in the wine industry. #sustainability #csr #sustainablewine #wineindustry #foodandbeverage #circulareconomy #iwca #sustainableagriculture #lowcarbon #carbonoffset #irrigation #energyefficiency #france #spain #italy #heritage #luxury #culture #europe #patrimoine #art #naturebasedsolutions https://lnkd.in/eJzPKaAg

🇳🇿 Identification of the best viticultural areas by spatial optimisation: application in #NewZealand South Island in the context of climate change. 🔗 Read freely on #OENOOne: https://lnkd.in/daWnMKF5 🌎 The global winegrowing sector is under pressure due to the effects of global #climatechange. This is particularly true for New Zealand, where the #wine industry is limited to a few regions. 🔍 This study focuses on the South Island of New Zealand. It uses the Multi-objective Optimisation for Agrosystems (MOA) #model to: (1) Investigate how potential exposure to climate risks and phenological stages will evolve under climate change (2) Assess the suitability of current #vineyards for #viticulture in the future (3) Investigate potential emerging areas favourable for viticulture. 📊 The results show that a significant shift in the phenological stages of #veraison and #ripeness can be expected in the future due to the warming of the South Island of New Zealand. The projected phenological stages advancement is around one week in the near term for both Shared-Socioeconomic Pathways studied (SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5) and is more than three weeks and one month in long-term for SSP2–4.5 and SSP5-8.5 respectively. A regional to local increase in frost risk (Canterbury, Otago, and Southland) and a slight increase in disease risk (especially on the coast) are also projected in the future, while the South Island of New Zealand is not expected to be affected by heatwaves. The results show that Marlborough, New Zealand's most important winegrowing region, will continue to be one of the best areas for viticulture in the 21st century. On the other hand, new winegrowing opportunities are expected to emerge inland and southwards. 👉 Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of the impact of climate change on the New Zealand wine industry and emphasises the need to adapt to changing climate conditions. It also provides insights into the future suitability of vineyards and identifies potential expansion areas for the New Zealand viticulture sector. 🤝 Thanks to the authors: Baptiste Hamon, Jeanne Thibault, Cyril Tissot, Amber Parker, HERVE QUENOL
