As an in-home caregiver, your most vital skills go beyond clinical knowledge. But what are these essential skills? 1. 📍 The cornerstone of excellent caregiving is compassion : Trust and comfort is established when you genuinely try to ease your clients' distress and show empathy for their struggles. Put your all into your work and strive to truly impact the world. 2. 📍 Additionally, since your clients might be dealing with serious medical or psychological issues, patience is crucial : Remain composed, sympathetic, and aware of their needs. Work at their own pace if you need to provide personal care, have memory loss, or difficulty moving around. Your consistent presence has the power to change everything. 3. 📍 Ultimately, the ability to observe and solve problems is essential for adjusting to the shifting needs of clients : Keep an eye out for changes in your wellbeing at all times, and share your observations with care plans. Effective problem-solving skills enable you to proactively handle problems before they get out of hand. Proficient in empathy, tolerance, and critical thinking are the attributes that distinguish outstanding in-home caregivers. 🌟 Ask Geri: Choosing the Right Home Health Agency for Your Parent 🌟 When it comes to finding the right care provider for your loved one, here are the top 3 things to consider: ✔ Credentials & Experience: Look for licensed, insured agencies with well-trained caregivers who have experience in specific health needs (like dementia care or physical therapy). ✔ Services Offered: Make sure the agency provides a full range of services—personal care, skilled nursing, and therapy—to meet both current and future needs. ✔ Reliability & Availability: Ask about caregiver consistency, emergency coverage, and after-hours support for peace of mind that care is always available when needed. These essentials will help ensure your parent’s safety and comfort, and give you peace of mind knowing they’re in trusted hands. #SeniorCare #HomeHealth #AgingParents #AskGeri #USAGeriatricServices

https://lnkd.in/eS6t87v4 How are you "feeling"? Assuming that the question is posed as more than a formality, it should probably be the first question on health professionals' lips when they encounter a caregiver..most of whom still don't identify with the role despite the increasing demands. My mother's life was saved by an astute geriatrician who recognized symptoms in her, during a routine visit of my father's. I am talking here about more than engaging the caregiver as a partner or co-team member. I'm sorry, but I can't get past the fact that we are utilizing family members to fill a serious gap in formal care. Some family members get off easier than others because they have more resources, and they have planned more effectively. Do you plan on being one of those people? Then start planning (for yourself) when you're young. Plan for your elder family members who have not done so. Even then, one never knows what awaits. Especially, in the latter case. The article concludes that the first step is recognizing and accepting the caregiving role. I say the first step is recognizing that you will need caregiving regardless of how successfully you age. Plan accordingly. The best help you can give your future caregiver is having made plans of your own. Do you care enough? Or are you going to be one of those individuals (in denial) who leave most of the challenges to family members? Yes, we can do better institutionally, but that means support from social institutions. I think they have more of a shot at that in Canada right now. This is one of those experiences that seemingly you have to live in order to fully understand. Don't wait. #newagingpartnership #caregivingconfidential #caregivingsupport #caregiving
