East Midlands Airport’s Post

This week, East Midlands Airport (EMA) marked 60 years since its first flight! 🎉 A special celebration took place with guests of honour, Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Michael Kupar OBE, and former EMA Managing Director, Penny Coates. A letter of congratulations from King Charles acknowledged the airport’s remarkable growth and community impact. Managing Director Steve Griffiths reflected on EMA’s legacy as the region’s gateway to the world, serving 130 million passengers over the years. Long-serving staff member Tony Hall shared memories from his 42-year career, while guests enjoyed music from the Derby West Indian Community Association steel pans band. We were also pleased to welcome ITV Central, who marked the milestone with a brilliant special programme about what makes EMA unique.
