Good morning, my beautiful network of highly intelligent professionals! ☀️ Hope all is well in each of your respective necks of the woods. As I start my day, I wanted to share this video I watched/listened to last night. It's a very insightful 6 minutes that doesn't require much of your attention (possibly listen while responding to emails?). In the video, Will Guidara, New York Based restauranteur highlights the parallels between the restaurant industry and the ever-expanding service industry. Most of us provide a form of professional service, be it entertaining, marketing, developing, engineering, surveying, consulting, or just about anything else. To be truly excellent in providing whatever service we provide, it is not enough that our product be great or that our work be incredibly efficient, as there will always be a new product and/or service to come along and be a percentage better than whatever it is that you offer. "The only competitive advantage that really exists comes through investing consistently and generously into relationships. Because relationships take a long time to build, and when built the right way, the loyalty you get takes an incredibly long time to erode. And the best way to invest in relationships comes through hospitality." We could all learn and grow a great deal in our professional lives by practicing what Will calls "unreasonable hospitality." In mastering the arts of service and paying attention to how we make people feel when we provide whatever it is that we do, we will find that everything we do will feel easier and more enjoyable altogether. Be present. Let go of your ego. Create unique, individualized experiences. You don't have to be The Bear to be unreasonably excellent. 🐻 Don't believe me? Try it.
