Meet Better Than Driving 👋 🚴♀️ Better Than Driving is developing a simple modular electric bicycle called ILUS Bike to standardize the shared mobility market. This innovation enables operators to expand into various markets, increase fleet profitability, and improve urban transportation efficiency. The modularity allows operators to use a single bicycle across different markets, where regulations, trends, and business models may vary significantly. Thanks to the Green Accelerator and Tartu Smart Bike Share, the first ILUS bicycles can already be spotted and used on the streets of Tartu. Go ahead and give it a try too! 😉 Twenty startups participated in the pre-accelerator program, and the top five were selected for the core program. All teams received a €5,000 grant, and the five teams in the core program received an additional €25,000 in services to develop their solutions and test them in local governments. The Green Accelerator program is implemented by Sparkup Tartu Science Park, Tehnopol, Baltic Innovation Agency / BIA, and Energex.

Their innovative technology allows users to convert a regular bike into an electric bike with a simple click. The company has collaborated with Formula 1 team Oracle Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology division to leverage cutting-edge automotive technology, ensuring their solution is both high-performance and durable. 💸 Skarper has recently secured EUR 5.3 Mln in a Series A funding round led by the investment portfolio firm Adjuvo, with backing from its extensive network of members and a range of angel investors. Just months after the launch of Version 2.0, Urban Sharing’s on-street operations platform for shared micromobility operators is transforming bike share systems across eight cities. Known as Urban Crew - leading bike share cities in Norway, Poland and Italy are the latest to adopt the platform, and it’s currently being leveraged by fleets ranging from 150 to 7,000 vehicles. As someone who loves 2-wheelers (if you know me, you know!), I’m thrilled to see this commitment to advancing electric PEVs for urban commuting. The Infinite Machine’s $10k “launch edition” P1 moped looks to be a game-changer, bringing Cybertruck-like style and power to city streets. With initial deliveries set for next year, this funding will help them scale up production and meet demand. Micro-mobility funding in the 2-wheeler space has been tough since 2021 —many highly-funded players like Cowboy, RadPower Bikes LLC Bikes, and VanMoof have faced restructurings, smaller bike brands struggle to raise new funding for "yet another bike brand". So it’s great to see new energy and investment flowing back into the category.
