🤝 The 18-month Sulphurreal project meeting took place in #Rome, where we experienced valuable exchanges with our incredible partners. It’s inspiring to be part of such a dynamic consortium, and we're looking forward to the next steps in our journey together. 🚀 ☀️ ♻️ The Sulphurreal project demonstrates an innovative approach to the direct storage of concentrated solar energy in solid elemental sulphur. The basic idea is to use concentrated solar energy to cyclically drive a series of chemical reactions that interconvert sulphuric acid and sulphur. ☀️ ♻️ Sulphurreal Project: Strong Collaboration and Exciting Progress! 🚀 Last week, we had a productive 18-month meeting for the Sulphurreal project in #Rome! Hosted by ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and Sustainable Economic Development, our partners from research, science, business, and industry gathered to share updates and discuss our ongoing work. The meeting highlighted incredible progress across all work packages, including: ➡️ Development of new catalytic materials and reactor designs ➡️ AI-driven digital twin technology ➡️ Process scale-up and life cycle assessments A major highlight was a tour of ENEA’s impressive research facilities, including the molten salts parabolic trough solar plant, solar chemical laboratory, CometHy plant, and dynamic corrosion test rig. These facilities enable research into materials, components and systems used to produce solar fuels and store solar heat. We’re thrilled about the next phase of the project as we continue to innovate and explore new ways to store concentrated solar energy in solid sulphur. This cutting-edge approach has the potential to revolutionise energy storage! Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with our impactful journey towards sustainable energy solutions! 🌍✨ Read more about the meeting: 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewWYzyrP 🤝 Project consortium: ENEA, DLR Institut für Future Fuels, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, University of Patras, Trinity College Dublin, ExoMatter and Saint-Gobain Research Paris #Sulphurreal #SolarEnergy #EnergyStorage #ENEA #SolarFuel
