🏗 What a great turnout for yesterday’s #Retrofit Real Estate event! Thank you to everyone joining us for an exciting afternoon. Insights from the speakers offered some great learnings about the potential to increase property value and #liveability while reducing energy consumption, environmental impact and utility costs by retrofitting. 🗝 We have summed up some key learnings: We have been retrofitting for centuries - arguably, in prehistoric times, even caves were retrofitted to suit human needs. We need to get back to that practice when upgrading buildings for the future. 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 - 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 (𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝!) 👩💻 Another focal point was the need for easy access to relevant, high quality #data. Good data and the right tools lends to making the best possible decisions, and a more holistic approach throughout the industry is key going forward. ♻ #Proptech is an integral part of solving retrofitting challenges but they need to fit into an integrated #ecosystem rather than operate in silos as Poul Keld Leth Lorentsen, Jeudan A/S pointed out. 🏘 Adam Jacobsen from KAB shared how they are solving some of the challenges by rethinking their own organisational structure and processes in order to centralise retrofitting data and projects rather than approaching them one by one. 💡 Simon Stig-Gylling from PFA Ejendomme and Tim Jensen from DOMUTECH, showcased how they are working together to identify opportunities to improve energy labels and how taking not just financial but also embodied carbon into account can reshape the decision between selecting new or recycled parts. 👬 Kasper Capion Kulmann and Mikkel Willard from Wihlborgs A/S and Benjamin Andersen from eseebase a/s shared Wihlborg's experience of using #digitaltwins to plan and manage retrofitting projects. 👋 Hello 2025! 🎉 As we step into the new year, we want to take a moment to thank our community and beyond for your incredible support, engagement, and belief in our mission throughout 2024. 2024 was a monumental year for Preoptima. It began with the launch of our #CONCEPT platform in January, enabling building stakeholders to take control of their whole life carbon (WLC) impact during early design stages. It ended with the successful culmination of the #PACER pilot, where 35 Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) participated in testing the platform designed to transform urban planning for a Net Zero future. Along the way, we were proud to be recognised for our efforts: 🥇 Winners of the 'Decarbonising the Built Environment' award at the UK PropTech Awards by the UK PropTech Association (UKPA). 🏅 Finalists for the 'Best Use of Technology: Carbon Reduction in Design' at the TechFest 2024 Awards, powered by Construction News and New Civil Engineer. 🏅 Finalists in the Unlock Net Zero Award's 'Innovation of the Year' category for data and knowledge building. 🏅 Finalists in the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) Awards 2024. 🥇 Winners of the 'Best Early-Stage Decarbonisation Software Company in 2023' from BUILD Magazine's Sustainable Building Awards. Our CONCEPT users made a huge impact too, modelling over 59,000,000 square meters of floor area throughout the year—that's roughly the size of Manhattan—a testament to the growing urgency and action within the built environment and the value of the platform. Looking ahead to #2025, we’re thrilled about what’s to come, especially the official launch of the Planning Application Carbon Evaluation and Reduction (PACER) platform at Westminster City Council in just a couple of months time (👀 watch this space). This milestone is set to serve as a key inflection point in urban planning in the UK, empowering LPAs to enforce WLC compliance with greater efficiency, accuracy, and impact! 🚀 🌍 However, as we celebrate these achievements, we cannot ignore the challenges. Global temperatures breaching 1.5°C for a full year is a stark reminder of what’s at stake. We need urgent action—from policymakers, businesses, and individuals—to tackle the climate crisis head-on. At Preoptima, we remain committed to enabling a built environment that works for both people and the planet. We're excited to make 2025 the year we accelerate the journey toward a sustainable future together.
